THE OHIO STATE Official Investigation of Powders,
Made under the direction of the Legislature by the State Food and Dairy Commissioner, General S, H. Hurst,
Shows the ROYAL to be'. the purest of aU baking powders tested, a cream.'. of tartar powder, containing 110 unwholesome in-
.. gredients, of great leavening power, its strength most perfectly preserved.
All the other baking powders contained impurities, ranging from 10.18 per cent, to 86.23 per cent, of their entire weight. As the best baking powder is that which gives the largest amount of gas and leaves the least impurity inw the bread, the Royal is again officially stamped the best in all respects.

The Round Hill scribe posts the people as to the doings ol one Coffman in every letter. Tom Patton will now compete with the undertakers of the Crawfordsville and Lafayette.
Hunters will find prarie chickens played out for the first time when they come to shoot them.
Win. Campbell bas suspenders, overall! and goods that are the best in the market. Call and see them.

Mrs. Wade who has been suffering with a huge tumor, bad an operation performed a few days ago and is now getting well fast.
Threshing will soon be in full blast and the "I will pay you When I thresh" people will have no excuse. May the threshers come soon,
The prospect for wheat to come to this market is good. With no elevator at Linden nor Wingate, New Richmond bids fair to get her share of the grain.
Come on, Friend Keliison. I have a first clasB line of the goods you spoke of. Your letter from the west was a dandy and appreciated by all who read it.
Mr. Editor, look ont. Que of your scribes is on the war path. A party living near Frankfort is invading his grounds, They are hot, and trouble is brewiug. Look out.

creditors, has
not done so. At last reports, he had settled down to work northeaat of this place. Fred Dettmder is the big cabbage raiser ot this vicinity. If Bill Gulliver, the Balhinch scribe, could see Fred's cabbages, he would write about them as being large aB hay stacks.
Men wearing the cloak of Christianity, who
and vouches urge their children to fight, should take the
cloak ofl that people may see them as they are. Such hypocrits were seen on our streets a short time ago.
A .voting man living near Round Hill, (and his name Is not Bennett, nor King, nor McLure,) owes a certain merchant in New Richinond a sum of money, and if it is not paid, his mime will show up in one of these 1 iters.

'THE CRAWJb'vjRDSVIWEEKLY REVIEW.
One of our oldest settlers Is reciving aid from the township, be it said to the shame of people who raise money to send off to the Negro. The lady we speak of is a fine old woman, and she should receive better treatment in her old days than to be thrown on the township tor support. And this, too, in a community where you can hear blatherskites pray lor a hundred yai^s from theipfine churches.
It makes us sick to see the way Petti! is treated then look back to the day poor Henningswasin the jail for a crime be had committed. One is petted and cajoled while the other was treated like a dog. Will the people ever learn to not worship every man that pretends to be a preacher? They are ready to help him out of murder, adultery, or any other crime he may commit.
Balhinch scribe, we would like to know yhat kind of liquor you take in yours to make you see such wonderful beasts. Is it Jackville Bourbon, or is it some you got from the old man whom you visited the Sunday you wrote about? The whiskey sold here acts different from that. It makes people want to go to church. At least those who go mostly have a half pint bottle in their pockets. They say it makes them feel like bankers, congressmen, etc.
Mr. Fulien as candidate for commissioner is one of the best nominations and interests the voter more than all the balance of the ticket Mr. Fulien bas been tried on gravel road business and be has proved true to his trust every time. If we get Mr. Fulien for commissioner will have no bogus expert business for tax-payers to pay for. We will have no second hand bridges put' off on us at a tiptop price and a thousad other, things we have been cursed with. Vote for Fulien.
YOUNTSVILLE.
Hay is all in the mow. Wheat threshing has begun. The oats are all in the shock. Dr. Shotts, of Linden, was here on Tuesday. Blackberries are not very jplenty in this neighborhood.
The Yountaville threshing club began operations Monday. Miss Lizzie Bowermt visited Waynetown friends over Sunday.
Mrs. J, M. Work is visiting her daughter, Mrs. P. M. Saylor at Champaign, III. Townsley & Work are receiving a Sue lot of popular and oak logs at their saw mill.
John Harpel attended the Congressional convention at Terre Haute on Tuesday. The piospect for a large crop of corn is better than has been known in a number of years, filstee Snyder is making preparations to build a new wood house at ML Pleasant school house,
Mrs. A.,C. Yount visited her father, Frank Rosebaum near New Market over Saturday and Sunday.
Miss Gertrude Troutman who has been on the sick list for some time, shows but slight improvement.
Miss Hattie Rosebaum returned from Indianapolis on Wednesday where she had been visiting friends,
We understand that the colored people of Crawtordsville will hold another basket meeting here in the near fnture.
The democrats of this section are well pleased with the renomination of E. V. Brookshire for congress and will give him their undivided support.
Dr. Davidson of this place and l)r. Louie Brown, of Alamo, attended to the injuries of I Vincent Charters instead of Dr. Hamilton, of
Waynetown, as stated in the Hornet
Threats are made that, it' the parties of questionable character near here do not get up and go, a band of White Caps will be organized and make them go. The people here have no use for such creatures and the sooner thqy go the better it will be for them. The premises have been watched and a

How long will it take the people to uudef stand that not the thing done, but the power to do is the ultimate power in school life.
The following are the teachers for the Linden schools next winter: Prof. A. S. Fraley, Judge W. D. Jones and Miss Clara Brockman.
Linden wants anew school building. They evidently need a good substantial building to accommodate the growing school at that place.
Many teachers object to the title "Prof." but they are certainly as much entitled to it as many who use it^uch as the great pedestrians, aeronauts, equine experts, jug lers, etc.
What a sin it is to warp a child out of bis natural bent of mind into an unnatural one. All smart children are fitted for some especial work in life. The teacher who can discern what that is, is a moBt valuable laborer.
Spelling seems to be the most difficult branch against which teachers have to contend and is well illustrated with the story jf a certain judge, who received a return from a justice,in which he spells God with a little j*and judgement with a big G, but who was not as badly puzzled as another judge known to be somewhat addicted to liquor, who received a letter commencing "honorable jug."

Miss Eflle Pierce, one of our fairest young belles, is helping Mrs. Maggie Patton during harvest
Miss Rosa Patton loves to sit under the s^mits.iittb cl Sunday evenings and watch the carts go by.
The young folks who are invited to the party at Dick Houk's Friday night, are expecting a grand time.
James Alexander, I.ucy Clough, John Harriman and Clara Clough spent Sunday evening at Oak Hill cemetery.'
Frank|Nolan wore a pleasant smile last Sunday afternoon, whether it was the effect of 8eeing|his girl we are unable to state. CA good many fr!hn this place attended the surprise last Sunday it being Harve Davernport's 30th anniversary. About sixty were present.
Teachers do not give the care to the health ot the pupilB that they Bbould. Many persons know tbnt it is necessary to put on an extra garment before going from a warm room to the cold air, but are careless in that matter and that fact makftB it necessary for the teacher to see that all are wrapped before going into the cold. Some may say this is poor advice for this exceedingly hot weather, but trustees are now employing toachers and should be very careful to get a full grown teacher,
Supt Zook has received the outline of the county institute work. How very different from what the work used to be. The old time Institute u?ed to be mostly academ'c in in struction, a whole week of school for teachers to prepare themselves in the common school branches. You ask for what? We cannot answer certainly not to trach scarcely less to teach school. But the character of the work of the present and future will be entirely professional. The following outline will give some idea of the work for this year's institute: 1. The Purposes of the County Institute.
Educational Psychology. Moral Instruction and Traiuin'g,
History of Education. Science of Education. The General Iflea of Method. Exemplification of the Idea ot Method the Common Branches. -,.t- a. Reading. b. Writing. c. Spelling. d. Language. e. Grammar. f. Arithmetic. g. Geography. h. History.
