For Secretary of State.
The Hon. John Lee, of Crawfordsviile, was in the city to-day. Ho will ask the democratic state convention to nominate him for secretary of state. Mr. Lee is an old time democrat, a man of ability and would make a strong candidate.—Michigan City Dispatch.
Col. John Lee, of Crawfordsviile, is a candidate for secretary of state, before the approaching democratic state convention. We have known Col. Lee for many years and know him to be a straightforward and consistent democrat, and in every way well qualified to, head the state ticket. If he is .nominated, as he should be, he will add strength to the ticket and give satisfaction to every democrat in the state.—Hancock Democrat.
Col. Jf.-hn Lee, of Crawfordsviile, President of the N. Y., Ft. W. & C. R. R. Co., was introduced and if our people were ever entertained by cheering words they were on that occasion, for Col. Lee succeeded admirably in accomplishing that task. When it is understood that three good speeches were made previous to his appearance on the stand, the greater and more difficult would seem Col. Lee's duty to interest the audience, yet he did it so cleverly that the grove rang with shouts of applause, and voices of "go on, go on" were heard on overy side, when bis time was up. His speech was a-rare treat to. our people, who always cherish pleasant memories of that occasion when he spoke so many cheering words. Col.
Lee is a candidate for secretary of state, and if he succeeds as well in the race for the nomination befoi# his convention, as he did in pleasing the people at this place on the 4th, he will gain the honor with but little effort on his part.'—Silver Lake Signal. 1
