The Safest AND
most powerful alterative is Ayor's Sarsaparilla. Young and old are alike benefited by its use. For the eruptive diseases peculiar to children nothing else is so effectivo as this medicine, while its agreeable flavor makes it easy to admin, ister. "My little boy liad large scrofulous ulcers on his neck and throat from which he suffered terribly.
w1H
Two physicians
attended him, but he grew continually worse under their care, and everybody expected he would die. I had heard of the remarkable cures effected by Ayer's Sarsaparilla, and decided to liave my boy try it. Shortly after he began to take this medicine, the ulcers commenced healing, and, after using several bottles, he was entirely cured. He is now as healthy and strong as any boy of his age." —William P. Dougherty, Hampton, Va.
May last, mv youngest child,
feti.rteen months old, 'bej'an to have sores gather on its head ana body. We ap* jltted various simple remedies without ay»il. The sores increased in number and discharged copiously. A physician was called, but the sores continued to multiply until in a few months they nearly covered the child's head and body. At last we began the use of Ayer's Sarsaparilla. In a few days a marked change for the better was manifest. The tviree assumed a moro healthy condition, tfiie discharges were gradually diminiftfaed, and finally ceased altogether. The child is livelier, its skin is fresher, a«.fi it* appetite better than we have observed for months."—Frank M. Griffin, Long Point, Texas.

Address Before the Indian School. As is known Col. John Lee was superintendent ot the Indian school at Salem, Oregon, up to March of 1889, aud took much interest in the work ot educating tho Indian children. His management was good but dissatisfaction among some of the subordinates, rendered toward the latter part of his administration his work somewhat less efficient than it would otherwise have beau. On the 9th anniversary of the establishment of the school Col. Lee delivered the following address which clearly Indicates the interest he took In the work:
Ladies and gentlemen, scholars and friends: I am pleased to meet you here on this ninth anniversary of this school. In behalf of the pupils and employes and in belmlf of the president and congress of the United States, I welcome you to this beautiful hall erected for the benefit of the Iudiau youth, by authority of the American Republic, so that you and your children might become educated in the better ways of the Anglo Saxon, or white race, ana thereby become useful citizens. This government was established by our fathers on the theory of equal rights. Equal aud exact justice to all—the Indian, the Africau and the white alike. All should be considered equal before the law, aud all should be taught their duties and obligations to the country, which contemplates equal burdens and equal benefits, thereby conferring upon all in equal measure the most unparalleled liberties ever confered upon the sons and daughters of men.
These liberties, my Indian friends, were established for you as well as for us. but for more than a hundred years your people could not see and comprehend it. Now they begin to see as through a glass darkly, the freedom and blessing intended for us all, and this school was established for the purpose of teaching you in the better ways of life so that you might stand on higher and holler grounds with hands outstretched to receive a more perfect knowledge of the life here and the life hereafter.
ORIGIN ANL) AIM OF THE SCHOOL. This school was first organized at Forest Grove, in Washington county, this state, on the 25th day of February, 1880, by an army officer—Captain Wilkinson—a man with a good and kind heart and a real friend to the Indian. At that time it consisted of but eighteen pupils —fourteen boys and four girls—all from the Puyallup tribe, near Tacoma. Now we have 200 pupils, representing more than thirty tribes. Then you could neither read nor write. Now we have manv excellent readers and writers, and not a few who are really good scholars in all the common branches of education. You have grown and prospered as but few such schools have ever done in the United States, You are known all over the land as standing in the front, as one of the best Indian industrial schools in America. You have had nine anniversaries. It has been my fortune to be with you at four of them, and any one not familiar with the work performed cannot realize the almost magic change wrought in the past three and a half years. It was my fortune to take charge ot this school on the 1st day of October, 1883. Then there were 135
Door Indian children crowded in OLD SHAKK HOUSES Built by yourselves on the bank of Lake Lab ish. Your conditioe the first winter I was with you was really pittable. Now see these beautiful houses—see this fine lawn and cam pus. See this fertile farm and the promising young orchard—see—see the beautiful tract of land purchased and paid for by your own honest toil, and deeded to the United States for your benefit, something that no other Indian school has ever done in America. You now have something of which to boast. It has, also been my Pleasure to pay over to you more than $3,000 in caBh, earned by yourselves, and besides this we have more than $2,800 to place in the bank to your credit. You have grown in wealth and knowledge more rapidly than any other Indian school of which I have any knowledge.
May God's infinite blessings attend you, and when you go out from this school let me appeal to you by all the glorious memories of the past, and all the bright hopes of the future not to return to the haunts and practices of the un educated Indian, but stand forever on higher and holier ground redeemed and disenthralled from the dark gloom that has so long hung like a deadening pall over your noble race, now bid you good-bye, and when I hear from you in my far.off home I hope I may hear the good and cheering news of 'well done' as it coines with the mountain breezes to gladden the heart ot one who has worked so bard for you, and one who loves you so well. Good' bye. May good bless you and your race is the humble prayer of your devoted friend and su perintendent.
Happy Hoosiers.
Win. Timmons, Postmaster of Idaville, Ind., writes: -'Electric Bitters has done more for me than all other medicines combined, for that bad feeling arising from Kidney and Liver trouble." Joe Leslie, farmer and stockman of same place says: "Find Electric Bitters to be the best Kidney and Liver medicine, mads me feel like a new man." j, W. Hunger Is the Kent Sauec.
As a rule, a person who has a good appel''e has good health. But how many there are who enjoy nothing they eat, and sit down to meals oi?'y as an unpleasant duty. Nature's antidotes for this condition are sh combined in Hood's Sarsaparilla that it soon restoreg good digestion, creates an appetite, and renovates and vitalizes the blood so that the beneficial effect of good food is imparted the whole body. Truly hunger is the best sauce, and Hood's Sarsaparilla induces hunger. 2w-A

Remarkable Rescue.
Mrs. Michael Curtain, ot Plainfield, III., makes the statement that she caught cold, which settled on her lungs, she was treated for a month by her physician but grew wose. He told her she was a hopeless victim of Consumption and that no medicine could cure her. Her druggist suggested l)r. Kings New Discovery for Consumption: she bought a bottle and to her delight found herself benefitted Trom the first dose. She continued its use and after taking ten bottles, found herself sound and well, now does her own house work and is as well as she ever was.—Free trial bottles or this great discovery at Nye & Co's., drugstore, large bottles 50c. and $1.00.
No matter what may be the ills you bear from indigestion, a dose of Ayer's Cathartic Pills will ease you without question. Just try them once and be assured they have much worse dyspeptic cured. You'll find tbeui nice and amply worth the price.
Two more territories, Idaho and Wyoming, are likely to be admitted to sisterhood soon, thus making forty-four states in our glorious Union.
Grape Culture.
It is becoming a leading business in this country, and that together with wine making requires years of practice. Mr. A. Speer, of New Jersey, one of the largest producers in the East, commenced years ago in a small way to make wine from currants, blackberries and other fruits. He soon turned his attention to grape raising and planted large vineyards of the Portugal vines from which his famous Port Grape Wine and Unferrnented Grape Juice is made, which chemists and physicians say rivals the world for its beneficial effects on weekly and aged persons.
Prince Bismark has declined numerous offers from English and American publishers for his memoirs.
Until the blood is cleansed of impurities, it is useless to attempt the cure of any disease. Rheumatism which is tracable to an acid in the blood, has been cured In many cases by the use of Ayer's Sarsaparilla. external treatment being of no avail.
