Joseph Thompson, one of the pioneers of this county, died at his home in \vayneiown on Saturday morning last, at the age of 70 years. The funeral occurred on Sunday.

Last week our business men made quite a flattering offer for P. T. Barnum to bring his great show to Crawfordsville. Mr Barnuin responded that in all probabilities he would visit our city sometime during the latter par.t of the season.
The commissioners of Tippecanoe county, accompanied byjthe auditor and surveyor of that county, were in joint session with Montgomery countyjcoir.missioners on Thursday of last week, in this city, in relation to the con struction of an eleven mile gravel road on the line between the two counties.

A Cincinnati^udge. on complaint of a doc tor, has prohibited an orchestra from practic ing, except at the noon hour and from live to six p.m. He probably thinks at the hours named the would-be musicians will be at meals, aud thus there will be no practice, He also prohibited the use of the trombone, And yet Cincinnati boasts of being a musical city, aud invites ail the world to attend to her festivals!
Ladoga Leader: In a recent interview with Dr, Moore, of Midland, the Leader man learned that a survey has been completed from Brown Valley to Waveland and it is the intention of the management to push the road on to the coal fields this season yet, as well as to put the tw!: frnvn's Valley and r.a lo good condition. Dr. Moore says the Midland is doing a fair business now. One factory in Auderson gives them six cars a day. They get much of the freight west from Anderson.
At a meeting of the county superintendents of the State at Indianapolis last week the grade necessary for a license to teach were raised as follows: For a six months license js 75 with a minimum of (15 for txvolve months an average grade of 85 with a minimum of grade of 70 for a twenty-four months license an average of 90 with a minimum of 80, for a thirty-six months license an average of 1)5 with a minimum of 85. The chief reason advanced for makinglthe raise was that too many teachers were turned out under the old system.
