Ark., June 11.—A dar
ing train robbery was committed on the Cotton Belt railroad between Camden and Texarkana early Tuesday morning. The passenger train, witb an express car attached, was going north, when the engine ran into a pile of lofs Which had been placed on the track. The tram was derailed, the engine went over an embankment, killing the engineer. The accident creatcd a panic among the passengers in the rear cars and a scene of terriblo excitement ensued. Just at the moment of the catastrophe three or four masked men came out of the bushes where they had been hiding and entered the express car. Nesbitt, the messenger, realizing some* thing of the tru h, stood witb revolver in hand, and, the robbers came up, fired at them. The Are was returned, Nesbitt being bhot, and, it is feared, fatally wounded. The robbers plundered the car, carrying away all the money. They escaped, taking to the woods, and it is thought will be captured, as a large posse is on their trail, the country being thorough' ly aroused. The officers of the Southern Express Company here can give no idea of the amount of funds stolen, but say it can not be heavy. The .am is variously estimated at from 15,00® to 510,000. No attempt was made tft rob the passengers, the robbers evidently believing the express car offered greater booty.

large reward will be
offered by the express company for the capture of the robbers. One party has been arrested and is now in custody, but has not been fully identified.
Monday afternoon $10,000 was taken from the Southern Express Company's office at Texarkana and carried to the depot. This was sent North. It is supposed the robbers were on the lookout, but made a mistake, thinking the money was to go South.
great deal of oxoitement prevails on account of the robbery. Within the last few years several robberies have been perpetrated within a radius oi 100 miles of Texarkana. The people are exasperated, and if the guilty parties are caught Judge Lynch will save court expenses.
About fifteen months ago a similar robbery occurred on the same line near Texarkana. Two of the outlaws, Steve and Bube Burrows, were captured and confined in the Arkansas penitentiary pending their trial. Rube escaped and Steve died while in prison. It is expected that the men who robbed the train Tuesday morning area part of the tame gang.
BAGGED A NEW SALEM ROBBER. DICKINSON, N. D., June 11.—Intense Excitement prevailed here Tuesday Ovening when the news spread that Sheriff Hayes of this county had captured one of the participants in the robbery of the Northern Pacific train at New Salem last Sunday. The sheriff and two other men arrived with the prisoner Tuesday evening and lodged him in jail. In crossing Grand river about eighty miles south of here the robber's horse was injured, compelling him to stop in his flight, and when the officers first discovered bim he made a desperate effort to escape, but after a race of beveral miles, and seeing that escape was impossible, he surrendered. He supposed his time had come to die and gave some valuable information showing that the robbery of the train had been deliberately planned. He gave his name as Charles E. Bailey.- There were five tnen in the band, two ef whom came ffom the West on the train which they assisted in robbing. The other three were in readiness at the scene of the robbery, with horses, and after the job was completed the three latter started Bouth and separated when a few miles out, one going toward the Missouri river, one west, and the prisoner was making for the Black Hil'ls. the two who ciime from the West remained on the train, and from what the prisoner says there is no doubt that it was their intention to rob the passengers, but for some reason this was abandoned. The prisoner offered the sheriff 91,000 to release him. Sheriff Hayes •left again to attempt the capture of the bandit that started east. The prisoner claimed he was under obligation to assist the others, but he is a desperate-looking man and evidently a desperado. When captured he was supfflied with a fifty-pound-sack aI flour and some bacon, and eorld .havo subsisted for two weeks on what provisions he had. The sountry south* of here is almost barren of settlement and the sheriff is deserving of much oredit for his success.
