A Tellov Game.

The Rede, ol this city, were in Veedersburg on Sunday last, and, together with a crowd ol friends from there, fairly made Rome bowl until the sixth inning when the score stood 14 to 4 in favor of the RedB, but from that on the Veedersburgers, with the assistance of a rank umpire, walked, rode and played horse with the Athenian delegation, and, as a result, piled up 23 runs. It was one of the rankest games of ball ever put up on a diamond. It was necessary at times for the Reds to retire the entire nine before the eagle-eyed umpire would allow them a chance to shake the stick. Wasson and Sullivan was the Red's battery. The boys play In Covington to-morrow. 1

Trying to Patch Up Peace.

Dr. J. R. Duncan, of Crawfordsville, formerly president of the Indiana electic medical college, who, with others of the faculty, stepped down and out when Secretary Adkinson, the lawyer, got control and was given the degree of doctor, was at the Bates bouse Tuesday* He was with other former members of the faculty who were consulting with Adkinson and the new faculty with a view to putting matters in such shape at will meet the appoval of the state association which, it will be remembered, condemned it and advised the Indiana medical society to discountenance it. —Indianapolis Sun.

The Assessment of Union Township The report of the township assessor shows the taxable ^eal estate of the city to be $1,776, 160, of personal property $1,890,610. The number of polls reported is 960 against 1,038 for last year. The number of male dogs 121., female dogs 15. The real estate outside of the city in the township is assessed at $2,088,990, the personal property $409,235. The number of polls is 820, male dogs 860, female dogs 14.

Board of Equilization..

The County Board of Equilization is now in session to decide on matters of over-assess-ments or any other question relating to the apappraisment of personal property. The board is composed of the following citizens: J. B. Wasson, of Union Absalom Elmore, of Franklin Archaleus Bailey, of Wayne, and Win. Z. McBee, of Madison.

The House Decides the Alnbama Contest by Giving the Seat to McDuHle—Senate Proceedings.

WASHINGTON, June 5.—In the House Wednesday Mr. Osborne (Pa.) presented the conference report on the army appropriation bill. The "canteen" clause of the bill, as agreed upon in conference, was debated at considerable length, but the report was finally agreed to.

Mr. Morrill (Kan.) reported a disagreement of the conference committee on the Senate dependent pension bill. l«e House insisted on its amendments (providing a service pension) and a further conference was ordered.

The House thontproceeded to the further consideration of the Alabama contested election case of McDuffie against Turpin. The minority report in favor of Turpin was rejected by a vote of 114 to 180. The majority report seating McDuffie was adopted by a vote of 180 to 113. Mr. McDuffie immediately appeared before the bar of the House and was sworn in.

WASHINGTON, June 5.—In the Senate Wednesday a resolution was agreed to for an inquiry into the management of the Fish Commissioners' office.

The presiding officer announced as the select committee on the bill for the establishment of the University of the United States Senators Edmunds, Sherman, Ingalls, Hlair, Dolph, Harris, Butler, Gibson and Barbour.

The fortification bill was then taken up. All the amendments recommended by the comnutteo on appropriations were agreod to.

There was a separate vote taken on the amendment increasing the appropriation for rifled sea-coast mortars from $250,000 to $400,000. The amendment was agreed to—yeas, 32 nays, 15. All the other amendments were agreed to and the bill was passed.

Senator Frye (Me.) offered a joint resolution to authorize the President to form alliances with foreign countries for the suppression of the liquor traffic, jtoferred to the committee on foreign relations. The Senate then adjourned.

BELGKADE. June 5.—A Dloody fight between Arnauts and Servians has taken place on the Servian frontier. The Ottoman and Servian Gpi'^rnments have telegraphed orders for v. 11 inquiry :nto the affair. The Government is informed that the Arnauts killed fifteen and wounded thirty-five Christians, robbed the dead and violated the women.
