It is that impurity in tlic blood, wlueh, accumulating in the glands of the neck, produces unsightly lumps or swellings which causes paintul running sores on the amis, legs, or leet which devclopes ulcers in the eyes, ears, or nose, often causing blindness or deafness which is the origin of pimples, cancerous growths, or the many other manifestations usually ascribed to "humors:" winch, fastening upon the lungs, causes consumption and death. Hemgthe most ancient, it is the most general of all diseases or affections, for very few persons are entirely free from it.

How Can It Be

By taking Hood's Sarsaparilla, which, by the remarkable cures it has accomplished, often when other medicines have failed, has proven itself to be a potent and peculiar medicine for this disease. Some of thest cures are really wonderful. If you suffer froiii scrofula, be sure to try Hood Sarsaparilla. "My daugliterMary was afflicted with sen ifnlous sore neck from the tune she was22 months old till she became six years of age. Lumps formed in her neck, and one of them after growing to the size of a pigeon's egg. became a running sore for over three years. We gave her Hood's Sarsaparilla, when the lump and all indications of scrofula entirely disappeared, and now she seems to be a healthy child." J. R. CAKI.ILK. Naunght, N.J.

LOCAL POLITICAL COMMENTATOR.

By Cervantes.

1 am much pleased to notice that the democracy of Coal ("reek township determined at their convention on Saturday last to not act the fool and give republicans nil opportunity to take advantage of their folly, but sensibly determined to support Utterback for Trustee. They should give him 75 majority next Monday. J)id you ever relied on the fact that fully 50 per cent, of republican political victories were won through the folly of their democratic opponents'1 If you did not 1 would have you investigate and see if tins is not the truth. I am satisfied that my remarks regardthe trustee business in Coal Creek a few weeks ago have set the democracy up there to thinking and determined them to act as they have. "Cervantes," however is not asking for any favors for any political foresight and accumen, and is not anticipating any committee visit from up there with a vote of thanks for his suggestions., j-.--*vr.'./

The late township convention of the republicans of Union township developed the fact that the "15" ring has to some extent lost its £rip. It had aimed to set up the pins for Shevlin for sheriff and Whittington for prosecutor, hut in this was thoroughly routed. My notion now is that Shevlin will be shelved by tho convention which assembles next Saturday, and very probably Whittington. I don't see why men who have been political bosses so long are not willing in all fairness to step aside and give the younger element a chance. Now mark my word, if the fellows put in their shovel very much this year they will defeat the entire republican county ticket in November. Just now and for a few seasons past the democrats have not been cursed with any bosses in particular and are now in a better condition for a united fight against the republicans than heretofore. But what if Shevlin it defeated? Won't there be wailing and gnashing of teeth if lie be compelled to walk the plank? It looks just now from my position up in the political tree that the Cox crowd, with the quiet manipulations of brother-in-law McClaskey, was rapidly coming to the front, and that tho sheriff's office would remain in the same family if they cau secure enough votes in November. The ring had promised Ike the nomination but it is questionable if they can deliver the goods, and if defeated he must curse some body else other

?w:

I learn that certain men who make the county offices a loafing place are criticising very much my democracy and discretion in certain matters relating to men and things political in some of my articles published heretofore in THE RKVIKW. I should hate very much to have my democracy, republicanism, proliibitionism or what not, ganged by the opinions or any men perpetually loafing about the clerk's, auditor's and other county offices. The puzzle to many is how these fellows live. They hang around these places from month to month never seeming to have any occupation whatever, unless to criticise the actions of

much better men. do thery at any time of day and you will find some of these chair warmers ou hand. Political movements and party actions Blmiild never be controlled by any such men. 1 have but little more sympathy Tor a county office loafer than I have for a vote seller, and the public respect for both is very near similar. The actions of both are much alike. They both desire to prey off the public, both are generally lazy and hate to labor with hand or liraiii.

For the first tune that I IMII lemwnbei the office of commissioner in the two west districts of tiie comity is going begging for applicants to fill the position, at least in the ranks of the democracy. I cannot exactly comprehend why this is thus. It is surely worth striving, for. There is enough importance attached to the office to -nake tax-payers desire good men for it. There is a wonderful amount of mismanagement, incorrect moves and bad partizau work every year on the part of the board of commissioners. John Fullen has been talked of for the place in the central or middle district, but as he seems Indifferent about it in laying any claim for it I suppose it will end there. Price will be the candidate on the part

0

the republicans in the central district. He

MILLINERY! MILLINERY!

lias aimed to pose as a great friend of the taxpayers by nipping Claims against the emiim held by \aiious peisons, hul IH a very poor I poser. '1 he people too ol ten see throiieh 1111 species of smail demagogiiery. It -would he ^VM'II foi him, as an eudence of Ills sincer tv in eco nizing for the county, to cut his own bills occasionally, aim where he labors only two hours on some ilavs for the countv to make that much propoinonate reduction from the tfiJ.oO yer ttlein vliicli he exacts from the tax-payers for his services. Deeds no words count the most with the people,

I cannot see why any circuit judge in the •Mateof Indiana receiving S'J.aDi) per vear, as they all do, has any inoial right to claim anything extra for holding court out side of Ins en cult. Yet they all do it. The law, undoubtedly, winch gives a pnlge ij-.oOO per year, does not contemplate he shall have any more pay, be Ins services demanded abroad or not. judge has very likely as much right, niorallv and legally both, to practice in court while also a judge as he lias to receive extra fees for holding court outside his circuit. Do you see why not? Kight-tenlhs of the lawyers of Indiana at least are not to-day receiving anv where near li-'J,5(H) per year in the practice of their plofession. Is there am honest reason why a man should receive '2,50ll per vear and be paid extra besides? Tins countv has paid many hundieds of dollars in st years to iiidges from other circuits holding court here. Instead of taking this money out of the pockets of the tax-payeis to pay these outside judges it should be deducted from the salary or the man Imng here. This is equity or the rigid and cast iron quality and the kind we need. I begin to think we need more granger legislation, anil laws made in the interest of people outside of the legal fraternity.

Our lepublican friends make their nominations for county odices next Saturday. Wingate for auditor. Snyder for indge and Trout for representative, are already as good as nominated, because no one is opposing them ii their own ranks, doubt the strength they credit Wingate with having, anil believe they will have another (Jeorge Brown terminus the iace. He has enemies in his own party who will not support him if nominated. Brown would really have made a much superior official to what Wmgate ever would, but then he had not the pow-or to pat men on the back, ask thern to take a smoke or a drink, and this rendered nil unpopular. The main fight is for sheriff and prosecutor, and nominate whom they will considerable feeling not soon smothered Is bound to arxe. Out of the thirteen candidates ror sheriff on the democratic ticket the race is between only two. I am not going to name who tliev are for satisfactory reasons, but at the third balloting vou will find out. Some or these candidates, if they were wise, would withdraw now. It will worry them much to find only four or five vistes cast for them, and two years from now they would hate to be told of it. am through for present but will see you later.
