The count last week at the Northern Prison reached 7W, the largest number enrolled in the history of the prison. If Vaughn had not acted so foolish he could have arrived there iu time to be numbered the 800th prisoner.
Forepaugh's big circus
A large granite monument made in Vermont, was received here last week and taken to Oak Hill cemetery and placed the lot belonging to the McMacken family. It is ono of the largest monuments yet erected in that cemetery.

The grip, we are pleased to learn, fa letting up somewhat in its attacks on the people and the number of cases is becoming greatly reduced. Since its first appearance here about January 1st it is believed that fully 1,000 cases have been reported in town, of which, however, only seven or eight have resulted fatally.
James Wright, president of the Crawfordsville taritl reform club, Hurley, Goben, Johnston, Carroll and others will be at Waynetown Wednesday evening Feb. 26, and organize a tariff reform club at that place. Citizens of Wayne, Ripley Fountain and Coal Creek are requested to be present and assist in the good work.

In an entertainment given at a village in Illinois a few nights ago a novel use of incandescent lamps was made. Several young ladies gave a drill iu military costume. Their helmets were surmounted with three incandescent lights with red, white and blue globes. In certain parts of the drill the lamps were suddenly illuminated and the effect was striking.
A Franklin (Pa.) editor happened to montion to a friend on Christmas day among other things bo really wanted was an extra pair of sus[enders. Before the day was over half the stores in town had sold all the ispenders they hod, and enough of those arlicles to last him for 150years were in tho possession of the editor.
Correggio's "San Giovanni," cited in the biographies and catalogues as having been in a church and subsequently lost, is thought to have been found. A gentlomaa bought the picture lately for a very trifling sum from a poor family in tho town of Correggio, and, after submitting it to experts, it has been pronounced the real thing, a picture of great vigor and spontaneity and in Corrieggo's best style.

A Hairy Race.
In the north island of Japan and in some parts of tho extreme northeast of Asia there lives an interesting race of people called Ainos. Where they came from nobody seems to know, for in many respects they are not at all like the Japanese and Chinese.
Tho men are well built, but rather undersized, and their bodies are covered more or less thickly with hair. They wear long beards, and the hair of their head is also long and bushy. The women are not so well looking, as they have to do all the hard work of the tribe.
The folk are not gifted with much intelli geuce, and they worship natural objects and animals, the bear being specially selected for this purpose. They spend their time in fishing and hunting. It is hard to tell what is the number of the Ainos. But as they are not supposed to number more than 50,000 at tho very most, it is likely that they will sooner or later become extinct.—New York Journal
