WICHITA. Kan.. Dec. 30.—The authorities of Stevens County have wired the authorities here that, owing to the intense cold and a snow nearly a foot deep, there is much suffering from lack of fuel, and a very few days will find many starving from lack of food. Tliey pray for immediate assistance in the way of fuel, food and clothing. It is nearly fifty miles from the railroad to the distressed districts, and with the present cold wave transportation of relief will be diflicult if not impossible. The last four years that county has failed in crops, owing to hot winds and lack of rain. Tho people have been afforded relief every winter. They have been asking for help recently, but few responded, owing to the unusually fair weather. The authorities here are at work collecting flour, meat, clothing and coal.
