W. McCardle, who owns aud manages the big elevator, is a hustler and ideal busiuess man, who is not afraid to try aud secure the trade and do what he cau for the advancement of the place. The Clover Leaf rail road haB furnished the tranportation and is deserving of its share of the praise for it has been worth thousands of dollars to Coal Creek township. It is coining to the front as one of the best roads in the state aud has as an agent at that place one of the best railroad men and a gentleman, Mr. J. A. Long. The hardware trade is well represented by two good men. They handle everything from a threshing machine to a carpet tack, aud go after trade iu a mauner to be complimented. Phillips & Templeton are strong competition for any firm in the county aud they deserve their trade. They will have a stock of holiday goods that will please every ons, and should have a booming trade. Webb & (iilkey, the clever men who run the post office and dry goods store, have a trade as regular as the tick of a clock. They are deserving of it. They carry a fine line of goods. York Sc. Wilhite is another dry goods firm that do a good business and carry as fine a stock as can be found in any city. Their stock of holiday goods is worthy of any one's trade. Chilcote Bros, have a neat store and a full stock of general merchandise and do a good business all of which they are deserving, D. A. Jenkins, the druggist, does not need a word said. He haB the goods and does the business. Joe. Galey has the candies, and, of course, is headquarters for Sauta Clause goods. He has a neat slock and is doing a deserving business. Chas. Sheets furnishes the lunch for the hungry and caudy for the babies. He has a good trade. Cadwallader it Ochiltree make as fine harness and do as good repairing as any farm in the county, so do not go away for your work. J. M. Bush furnishes the wet goods, and it can be said to his credit, he runs as orderly a saloon as will be found in the county. Will Shultz does the bartering aud has the neatest, cleanest shop outside of this city that will be found in the couuty. He knows ^iow to handl9 the razor.
Mrs. Snyder and Mrs Galey do the dressmaking and millinery for the tows, and two more pleasant ladies are hard to find. Tbey have a large trade, do the best of work at reasonable prices and are deserving of it. Gott & Snyder are the livery men who have good rigs for the accommodation of the public while Doss & Oxley have a big trade iu blacksmithing and worn! work and do their work iu such a manner that they make customers and never lose auy. The REVIEW agents at this prosperous place are James Oxley aud 'Squire Gilkey and we hope they will secure a good big list. We feel like doing anything we can for the town and township. It is one of the west-enders, and three better townships than Coal Creek, Wayne and Ripley are hard to find, and we hope the good people will appreciate such efforts by giving their names to our agents. Wingate is a booming town, bound to win and we doubt if another place in the county ran show such shipments of grain, stock, poultry and produce as the freight books at their depot will. All they need now is gravel roads and are fast securing them. They have good merchants, good schools, good churches and good people with a good' business town and well-fixed farmers. For what more could a place ask?
Teachers' Association,
The Montgomery County Teachers' Association held a two day's session last week, Friday and Saturday. There were 140 teachers enrolle and present, a larger number than is generally in attendance. There were three or four professors from a distance who lectured to the association. On Saturday, Prof. Coulter delivered his lecture on "Life." Miss Ora Moffett favored the audience with a vocal selection and then Prof. A. D. Mohler, of Huntington, talked on "Education and the Labor Problem." In the afternoon the exercises were opened by Miss Nellie Nicholson in one of her charming recitation. Mrs. McRae discussed "Fiction as a Means of Culture" after which the association adjourned.

HI Hie far west. That place is Wingate and the only feud is the trouble that has occurred over tlie name. It was formerly Pleasant Hul and has changed names with the signs of the moon. Things look (*H if it would run along smoothly now, and it is hoped by all friends or the place that It will. The progress of the town from in very small village to a thriving town, has been watched with much interest by the good people living in and near the town, aud the steady growth assures theiu a go.id business point forever. This town's prosperity aud that of New Richmond have injure 1 the trade of Crawfordsville more than any other cause and while we regret to see any trade taken away Trom this city, we are glad it falls into the pockets of such good people. The.Jleading enterprise that has done so much for the town is the excellent market for grain. There is no place in the state where abetter price can be secured, aud the large quaulily that is shipped from there is a testimonial that the good farmers know it. J.
II. G. Wood, of the famous ballot-box forgery case which played so prominent apart in the late Ohio election. The arrest was made at the instance of Gov-ernor-elect James E. Campbell, United States Senator John Sherman and Congressman Uutterworth. it is said the disclosures in connection with the case will cause a profound sensation in the political world.
The affidavit charges AVood with perpetrating a libel against William McKinloy, James E. Campbell. Ben Butterworth, John Sherman, S. S. Cox, W. B. C. Breckinridge, Charles S. McAdoo, J. R. McPherson, J. It. Whiting and F. B. Stockbridge, all membersorex-members of the House or Senate of the United States, in that he counterfeited their names to a forged and fictitious contract, with malicious intent to disgrace these men and damage them in the eyes of the Nation, by leading the people to believe they were in a corrupt scheme to make money by violating the laws of the United States by being pecuniarily interested in the passage of the ballot-box bill pending before Congress. The affidavit furthermore alleges that R. G. Wood caused this forgery t,o be published by delivering it directly or indirectly to Governor J. B. Foraker anil lo others unknown to affiant.
Mr. "Wood's bail bond was fixed at $1,000. He tried for two hours while under arrest to obtain bail, but. failed. He protests innocence.
