THIKG8 POLITICAL.

That loud-mouthed Republican who did so muoh talking during the last campaign, imagines that this county is solid for his party by from two to three hundred, said a man of good common sense to us this week, aud the same loud-mouthed Republican hailing from Union Uwnship wants the nomiuation for an •(See, and is building his fences far that result. If we had as good chance for Heaveu as he has for disappointment, we would begin to sprout our wings immediately,

One Charles Reuntree, of Ripley, wanted us to spread oui grateful pen in telling the good people of that township just how badly they needed the gravel roads free, but Rountree, like many other stiff parties and stock dealers, such a rank radical Republican that we fear such influence would net bring good results.

The very Idea of Capt. Billings thinking of being sheriff. Why, Captain, it is fixed, and like Scott, of the Waveland Independent, who said to Burferd, "Pa and I will get eveD," it is your only proffered consolation.

"What is good for the goose should be good for the gander." If the laws te protect home batchers against the farmer who can sell his beef lower thao the butcher can, and still make money, are bad ones, why does not .the same rule hold good with everything we wear and eat. Why sboQld we protect a few, and make them millionaires, while the many suffer. This is a plain illustration of protection. If the butcher was protected, he alone wonld be benefited, while every person in the city would suffer, and the Journal makes a grand effort te aid the man who sells his meat cheaper and can afford to do it, fer he don't want the earth. The Jenrnal jumped the track and is supporting a measure directly opposite to its party's platform. We are of the same opinion as they are. Let this be a free market foi everything. Let the eonsummer get the benefit of competition, not protect the few at the expense of the many.

Just keep coming, Mr. City Council, and if you do not meet a hot reception in the future matinee then we miss our guess. The people are not going to be feols. Yes, the double extra kind of fools. They know a thing or two and are quite positive that there must either be a change, or the people who do not stand in might just as well inovb out

Andy Anderson says be don't want to see any more grand juries for oeme time, but we forgot to ask him whether he meant it or not

We still champion the cause of S. A. R. Beach for Representative, though we have net interviewed your uncle, Hannibal Trout as to Whether he is willing to release his mortgage or not.

Laying all jokes aside, the great objector and Irish reformer, Mike Price, is the only man on the Board of Commissioners with enough business ability to act as janitor of the jail. Price has his faults, and they are many, but he has some good horse seise also.

It will be remembered that Abraham H. Bowers, the financier and speculator in human credulity, of Darlington, County Commissioner and gravel read director PAB EXCELLENCE, and quondam candidate for County Auditor, at a late session of the Board of Directors played horse with good old uncle Jeel, and that wise and mysterious collegue from Cork, Mike Price, and succeeded in emptying the county treasury of all the free gravel road fund and $500 over. Mr. Bowers was in a fix. He couldn't figure any more meney into the treas2' ury, and another gravel road day was coming. He set up a scheme to dodge the issue, but having once been played for suckers, would'nt have it any more, and Bowers had to stand the racket Ramsey indorsed the orders "not paid for want of funds,"and they will draw interest at the Citizen's Bank until paid. This sagacity of Mr. Bowers will probably lead him into a deep sea before he gets through with his race for Auditor. Fixing up the roads in his section of tbe county to the detriment cf the rest pf the public taking all the money for his men, building bridges for Boone county by mistake, and a thousand other things will combine to make his way rocky.

There is no pide show attraction out of the coming matinee for auditor aB "Kunnell" Wingate, of "Kole Krick," and Abe

If yov want Great Bargains in any kind of Fancy or Staple Dress Goods. See our line of All-wool, Double-Width Dress Cloth at the very lowest Drices.

Bowers are

in tbe race on "Kunneil's" time, and both will break the record or make the fur fly. The The "Kunnelli" has bad the log cabin "tuuk," and means to use the "picter" for campaign purposes, while Bowers, the sly rascal, has had District No. 1 fixed in apple pie order. Now the only questions is, will the ring stand by the "Kunnell" as they promised.

Since old "Wanrlck" has an office and Bbikiugham dye has not raised in price, they seem to be perfectly satisfied in that.corner. Weil, now since the clouds have rolled bye, we can frankly say Capt. Munhall is a gentleman, and Is making a good official, though we think Milt McKee would have done better. Why should'nt we think so.

THE CRAW FORDS VILLE WEEKLY REVIEW

MADISON TOWNSHIP.

Aaron Layton is buying calves. We had rain and snow on last Sunday. Win. Jordon will move his butcher shop to Linden in the spring.

All of the public schools in this township are In good running order. The farmers are about half done cribbing corn. It is poor stuff at best.

Some of the republicans say they want In more of Ben Harrison's protection. Mont Slattery Is the new postmaster at KirkPatrick—a good man for the position.

Old Martin Cook, the man with a bag of gold, is at Harry Smith's stopping a few days, There is a scarcity of stock hogs in this township this season. The hog cholera is the cause.

If (Seorge Hurley was as big as Jesse Cumberlaud, he would be our next Judge and don't you forget it.

If you do not take the REVIEW next year you will miss some fine reading, all of which will be of interest to you.

Linden wants a larger school building, something like Wabash College, coating 20,000, so the town can take a boom.

It is now a puzzler to know how to manage the township election next spring.QjWe have two voting preoincts, so they say.

It is considered that J. M. Waugh's.(|engineering apparatuses are the best that ever leveled the Potato Creek prairie. So much for James.

TJp to date no one seems to be looming up tor office of any kind. The republicans are dead and the democrats have'not awakened up yet to duty.

It is fun to hear some of the republicans try to explain away .how it ceme that Iowa and Ohio went denwCratle. Talk is cheap'but it takes votes to count a man in office.

It is of great importance that every democrat in Madison township should take the RsVIEW next year. You will have a chance te read about things to your own Interest and matters concerning your own interest.

Next year the people of this township can take a peep at that excavated free gravel road rat hole and pay their reassessments on the Linden and Potato Creek roads also for the drainage of the Lye Creek and some of its tributaries

The Democracy is talking of organizing a Democratic reform club In this township. When Cleveland was President and there* publicans did not get good prices for their farm products they squealed like bay steers, but sinee Ben is President and Tanner is kicked out and stock of all kinds lower than ever, they do not let a wave of trouble role over their peaceful breasts, nor do they ever murmur. The time is coming when protection will be a thing of the past.
