Gus Karle, Doc Britton, Herman Kostanzer and Harry Wilson were among the Rockville fair visitors from this city.
A. A. Smith, editor of the Greencastle Times and a downright good fellow, passed through here Friday, euroute for Chicago.
Misses Viola Beck, Jessie Overshlher and Lora Riddell, of Danville, III., are visiting in the city, guests of Miss Pauline Goben.
Chas. Yelm, a former member of the Lafayette police force, and one of the best officers the Star City ever had, was in the city on Friday.
Jim Hanna is lost at Indianapolis, the last seen of him was in the north part of the city with eight handsome young ladies all talking to him.
A. B. Cunningham has received an invitation to speak at Meharry's grove at the Old Settlers meeting and will accept it and make a good address.
John L. Goben was called to Waveland, Friday, by a telegram announcing the serious illness of a son of Cornelius Canine.
LATER.—Mr. Canine died Friday evening. Hugh Kelsey and Miss Dollie Vance were quietly married Thursday evening, Rev. F. H. Hays officiating. The contracting parties have many friends who wish them Godspeed through life.
Spence's People's Paper has been sued for libel by George K. McComas, of Covington. We have often thought of doing that ourselves, but when we came to study about it we concluded people would say of us as they will of McComas, "you're a chump."
The firm of Riggin & McCardle, of Wingate, have dissolved partnership, Mr. Riggin retiring on account of failing health. Mr. McCardle will continue in the grain business at the old stand and in his usual enterprising manner will make it a success. Mr. Riggin will soon start ou a two months' trip through the east.
Virgil Yeates, a young man of Bainbridge, fell from a third story window of the Commercial house, at Greencastle, Thursday night and lit 011 the stone pavement. It was supposed that he sat down in the window and went to sleep. He was alive when our informant left Greencastle but it was thought he could not recover.
Ben Taylor, a grain merchant of Corwln, was coming from Lafayette, Thursday morning on a freight train and as the train did not stop at Corwin he attempted to jump from the train and in doing so fell to the ground. In the fall he broke his arm, mashed his hip and received other internal injuries. Ho lay unconscious for several hours before he was found by his
friendSi More IMopie from this city were in Indianapolis, Thursday, than ever before. They spent the day in seeing the sights and counted up in the hundreds at the ball game. Judge Snyder occupied a front seat as did Dr. McMecban and there might hare been a sprinkling of college professors. Mayor Russell, John Bonneli and •George Hadley Were enthusiastic for the Hoosler club. The first train homeward parsed through the city at twelve o'clock and the second at two.
We have been informed, and upon reliable authority, that the $450 we have BO often spoken of will be paid into the county treasury before the county commissioners have their next meeting. We have not heard who is to pay the money but have the information as positive that it will be paid. The REVIEW doesn't claim any credit for this, but we think we have done our share, And will he found at the old stand, ready to stamp on anything that will injure the people of Montgomery county.
Family Reunion.
The reunion at Andy Messmore'son Wednesday last was a grand success, there being present 72 guests, among them 8 children and 19 grandchildren, two of the children being detained at home on account of sickness. The guests were met with a hearty welcome and dinner was served at 12o'clock, The table fairly groaning with everything good. After dinner they retired to the sitting room and were entertained with singing by the Mt. Zion, Roberts' chapel and Meliott Sabbath schools. All went home voting the day well spent and hoping to meet each other every year on such an occasion in the future.

The Disciples of Christ are meeting with success in their two weeks' basket meeting at Hillsboro. Sunday is to be their big day.
It is reported that one of Crawfordsville's fairest society young ladies is soon to be married to a young business man of Frankfort.
William Whittiugton and wife, of Brown township, took the train from here, Tuesday, for Redford, la., and Hoxie, Kan., to visit relatives.
Gen. Wallace received an offer this week of $4,000 to deliver 20 lectures in California, but was compelled to refuse on account of pressing literary work.
Joe Taylor was the victim of a loaded cigar, Tuesday. It didn't make much noiee, but just enough for "Hutch" to jump two feet high and raise the price on crab apples.
E. E. Bean, the scenic artist who did the fine work for Music Hall, has secured the contract for paintiug the Bcenery in the new opera house at Brazil. Mr. Bean is pne„of the best artists in the country. |||l
Sims, the aeronaut', said he would rather make an ascension in Montgomery county than any place in the world and that if he could arrange to do it he would beat any record here. This would be a drawing card for our fair and we hope the management will take advantage of it.

Hon. Brick Steele is in Chicago. He is thinking of purchasing the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy line of railway, and In consequence the Chicago papers are filled with daily bulletins of the celebrated gentleman's movements. The last press dispatch was to the effect that he bad just been given ten days in the work house for unornainented Intoxication.
Miss Ella Henry, daughter ot William Henry, of Wingate, died on Saturday night, August 10. She was a sufferer from that dread disease consumption and was ready at her Master's call. In her death many a heart was made sad, for she bad many friends. The funeral was preached the following Monday by Rev. J. T. Phillips, after which the remains were laid to rest a cemetery near Newtown.
The prohibitionists of this and adjoining counties hold a nieetiug in the court house on Tuesday. They were there all day and were left alone in all their glory. T. E. Ballard called the meeting to order and Elwood Hunt, of Roachdale, %vas made chairman, with Dr. Griffith as secretary. Spujches wero made by a number present. Committeemen were appointed and they said they were goiug Into the work in dead earnest. There was no lively outburst of enthusiasm. In the evening they held another meeting at whicli several soul stirring speeches were made by the misled brethren.

Prof. Charles E. SiuiinB,the aeronaut, passed through the city Tuesday en route forJLebauon where he make an ascension this week. He was quite anxious to make an ascension in this city as Montgomery county is his home.
Dr. Henry who has been in the far west prospecting for location HAB returned to this city. Of the dozen or more who have gone from this county to Washington Ter., during two or three yeare fully half of them have returned.
A new company called the Water Supply Company has been organized in this city, and though they are said not to interfere with the present water works company it is for the same purpose. John S. Brown, Warren Ashley and Ben Crane are named as directors.
The social given by the members of the Y. M. C. A., Tuesday evening, was a grand success. Between 400 and 500 people were present and an elegant supper was set out for all for the small price of admission, 15 cents. Six-ty-five dollars was realized. It is the intention
for entertainments of this character, much good and money is expected as a result of their continuance.

The Music Hall orchestra returned home from their week's outing at Lake Maxinkuckee last Sunday. They bad a grand time and were recognized fas the finest musical organization that visits that beautiful summer resort and
their services were in demand at all times. Punch Pontious and Bob Smith got in their work advertising their famous medicines and have them on Bale at the village drug store. All the ladies were smitten on Harry Ramabrook,
while Gus Rutledge was the famous fisherman

A business men's association was orgauized at Ladoga this week. It iB composed of the best business men of that enterprising town and is a branch of the Chicago agency that was represented here last week.
Capt. Wert paid his companie's fare to Indianapolis Thursday. Boys this is an imposition upon your commanding officer who has enough work to make the company a success without defraying all tho expense.
It is reported at Wingate that acting Coroner Coppage found a bullet hole in the body of young Ross who was killed thero Sunday night, but that official inforines us that there is no truth in the rumor. He neither found a bullet hole nor any evidence of foul play.
The Rockville fair was the greatest success this year of any since its organization. The speed ring was well represented, tho stock show was very fine, while the big pumpkins and pretty girls were enough to make a Hoosier think thero was no place like Parke county.

The Leslie Davis Ideal Company is meeting with good success at Lebanon, this week, having had better houses than when Mr. Davis was there two years ago. Mr. Davis is well pleased with every member of the company and is confident no changes will have to bo made.
The laying of the corner stone of the soldiers' monument at Indianapolis, Thursday, was an honor granted a Crawfordsville inan, Charles.' M. Travis, also one of the speakers was our own Gen. M. D. Manson. Crawfordsville always comes in for her share of the glory and Is worthy of it.
The Monon gave tho O. I. & W. 125 passengers for Indianapolis Wednesday. The party came from all statjons as far south as Salem and when the MMJon train came in the rush was quite amuaiog to witness. They Beemed to think the trainman going to leave them and run they did lo fast as to make a Record.
