Probably the toughest lot of men and women ever seen Indiana weut through on the Vandaiia main line) Thursday evening. They were Indians, Negroes auil whites, -5 in nuinher, enroute from ft. Smith, Ark., to the penitentiary at Columbus, 0., for various terms aud I for all the crimes in the calendar. They occupied a special car, and were guarded by a half dozen heavily armed men.

Up to last Sunday Waveland had escaped such an luflictlon as the Salvation Army, but that day a detachment came down from Crawfordsville under the leadership of Capt. Miller aud "Blsmark" Coustaucer, "the saved printer," anil the town resounded with the melodious atraiu8 of "Follow, Follow." Meetings were held afternoon aud eveuiug iu Milligan's hall, and tbe army expected to stay here some time but wheu a vole of the audience was taken to ascertain how many wished tbein to stay, the result couvinced them llmt the interest was not enough to justify them in remaining. They may be back to-morrow.

Johu Gardener died of consumption on Saturday evening, July 27th. Services were held at the Cbristiau church Monday, after which the relatives followed by a concourse of sympathizing friends escorted the remains to their final resting place. The bereaved have the sympathy of the entire commuhity.

A party of friends aud relatives gathered last Wednesday, the 24th iust. at the home of Eli Reader, it being his 31st anniversary. Relatives and friends from Covington, veedersburg, Wayuetowu, Alamo aud Danville, including tbe Alamo band, were preseut aud an enjoyable time was had. All partook of the luxuries of the feast, and when the time came to go home he received the wishes of all that his next birthday might be speut as happily.

The original contract made wheu the charter was grauted the Yountsville aud Crawfordsville turnpike company iu 18615, was that the company in consideration of the use of Sugar creek bridge should not place a toll gate within a half a mile of either side of said bridge and they furthur agreed to keep up the floor, roof and approaches to said bridge. The record fails to show of one cent that tliey have put upon it. Would it not be well for the board of commissioners to deduct some of the money that has been spent for this purpose before paying for tbe road? *0^
