Tlie Hoys 111 Camp
For the benefit or Company 1)^ 1st regiment I wish to say that the company is back from the State Encampment aud I think the boys deserve great credit for the part they had and performed while there. They were highly complimented on all sides. The Adjutant (ieneral of the state, and Commander of the camp, detailed all of his orders and clerks from Co. D, having six of our men there during the week. The colonel of our regiment gave us the second best place iu the line. The general opinion was that ours was the 3rd. best on foot movement, manuel and the evolutions of the tactics. The oflicers in charge did not give us much rest but kept us on duty or drill from t! a. m. until 7:30 p. 111., with roll call at '.f.30 p. in. Company also furnished officers of the day for two days, Tuesday the 23rd and Saturday the 2Sth. Aud officers of4the guard one day. Colonel Ewiug gave the boys a very nice talk and said they were in so much better shape than he expected that he felt greatly encouraged and proud of their movements and appearance. Some of the boys thought it a little hard to have to stay in camp but the state pays for time aud labor only. Some got out without leave but as a general thing they did very well. M. V. WKKT, Capt.
Col. Kuilrnnd.
A new line is to be constructed from Foit Wayne to Chicago. Articles of incorporation with that import were filed Monday. The amount of Capital stock is fixed at $1,500,000 aud the road will be 134 miles iu length. The oflicers of the new company are, president, a or vi vi re id A Funk, WarsaW: and secretary, Orlaudo M. Packard, Plymouth. The board of directors consists of Allen Zollars, E. L. Barber, H. B. AVhitterberg, John Haidermen. J. A. Funk, Hiram S. Biggs, A. T. S. Kist, M. AV. Simmons, O. M. Packard, J. K. Lawrence, H. B. Brown, D. E. Simmons, M. L. DeMotte, Augustus Wood and John Lee. President Lee said the road would shorten the line from Chicogo to New York and was to be constructed with the idea of getting business between these two great cities. The company he stated was organized on the same plan as the Nickel Plate, which he was identified with, by securing as stockholders business men who would have use for the road. He said that a meeting would be held at Warsaw, Thursday, to perfect the organization aud that he expected the road would bo completed iu a year.

Kurly Closing.
In regard to closing at 0 in as pursued b*y the dry goods aud clothing men, they say mat those who oppose it know little or nothing about its advantages or disadvantages to them or the public at large. The merchants, or most of them, say the trade is always light after that uour, that it rarely pays for the gas consumed, aud as for driving any trade from the city in consequence there is no truth whatever iu the assertion. Nevertheless there are some that thiuk it injurious to the business interests of the city.
