The contract for the big turnpike work, embracing over BO miles, at Huntsville, Alabama, is to be awarded to Ed. Lane, of this county, and Cal Darnall, of Putnam county, provided they can give a bond satisfactory to the authorities down there.

The King Fishers camping club will go into camp at Pine Hills on the 24th of this month. Their party this year will not be as large as heretofore, but the amount of fun they anticipate having will no doubt be just as great. They will be gone ten days at least, and perhaps louger.
The colored oasKet meeting which was held last Sunday, iu Clough's grove, on Bristle Ridge, did not cause so much joy to the palpitating heart of the colored population as wan anticipated. The meeting was well attended and vast throngs wore listening to the eloquent words which fell rrom the teeth of the sheppard of tlio flock, when the heaven sent its tongue of fire into camp to tell them to hie hence. The wind blew, the rains descended, and the congregation molted, for it was founded upon boards. Rev. P. M. Lewis of this city preached. Three wagon loads and many private conveyances went out.

D. W. Templeton died at his home in Wingate, July 12th at 9 a. 111. of that deaded disease lung trouble, age 27 years and 8 months. The funeral was preached by Rev. J. T. Philips Sunday moruiug in Christian church after whicli the remains were laid to rest in the Newton ceutery. Dr. Templeton moved to Wingate his old home four months ago from Dewey, 111., where he has had a good practice but was forced to give it up on account of failing health and moved to Wingate to rest up and try and regaiu his health, but his hopes were in vain and his many friends sadly regret the death of such a promising man,

The County Commissioners met on Monday and transacted free gravel road and other business. John Lane, contractor of the S. C. Darnall gravel road was allowed $200. The total value of work done on this road to date $1,075. Henry B. Hulett, county clerk, report, ed that the sum of $110 had beeu paid to the Treasurer, being the amount of docket fees collected up to July first. Accounts amounting to $104.50 wore allowed.
Elder Godfrey Williams, the noted and famous colored expounder of tho gospel, not satisfied with all the glory won at Ladoga, last Sunday, will hold a basket meeting in the Shanklin Grove at Linden Sunday, A crowd of the best singers will assist and the hand bills say that the Elder is the greatest revivalist in the state. It is secretly reported that Joe Fossee, Tom Robinson, Mace Townsley and Billy Murphy are the choir of singers though they will not he allowed to drink anything stronger than gin. Jp8!
