the -Threstfing Machines then in use were almost wholly of the class known as the Endless Apron" style. Then it was that Nichols & Shepard, of Battle Creek, Mich, .invented and began to develop an entirely new and novel style of Grain Thresher and Separator, which they very appropriately named the "Vibrator."

It was a revolution in Threshing Machines, and from a small beginning of five machines in

1858

they soon reached a pro

duct of 1,000 yearly. Their Vibrator drove the "Endless Apron" machine out of market, and all other makers copied it as closely as they dared.' Today all Threshing Machines o{ any reputation or merit use the principles of the old Vibrator. Nichols & Shepard have continued in the business without change of name, location, or management and during the past three years have brought out and developed another new Threshing Machine for grain and seeds, as superior to all existing machines as their former was to the Endless Apron.' They name this new and improved Thresher

STATE NEWS.

llockville is getting to be a "horse town." Five of her best horses are new out oil the circuits with every prospect of making large winnings this season.

Mason Long's new street wagon was dedicated at Muncie last Sunday. The exercises were conducted by Mr. Long's pastor, Rev. S. A. Northrop, of the First Baptist church of Fort Wayne. ,:v

The board of the State normal school received assurances from the contractors that the new liuilding will be ready for the opening of the fall term in November.

Contractors are now engaged in transferring a huge petrified turtle weighing 53,000 pounds, from the quarry iu the Putnam county edge of Park county to the railroad, from whence it is to be shipped to Cincinnati parties, who will exhibit it there.

The Fort Wayne natural gas company has secured another gas well at Montpelier. Supt. Hoffman says it will flow 5,000,000 feet per day. This is the ninth well in the new field, which is located in Jackson and Harrison townships. The company also has four wells near Montpelier, making a total of thirteen flowing welis.

Child With Two Heads.

Undoutedly one ol the greatest and probably the stangest wonders in the way ot human birth now iu existence occured Tuesday night near Tipton. The parents of this curious freak of nature are Mr. and Mrs. Jones, who live about five miles north of Kempton, in Tipton County. They are young married folks, probably 30 years of age, and this is the mother's second confinement, the first child being 2 years old and nothing abnormal about its development. The monstrosity, for such it is, and a wonderful one, too, consists of a single, continuous body on each end ot which is a well formed head. It is provided with four arms and four legs which are also well formed aud about the normal size and shape. The arms are located in tne proper place and on natural shoulders, one pair at each end ot the long body, but the lower limbs portrude outward from each side at the middle of the elongated being. The two heads face the same way, aud the legs are so attached as to extend at right angles from the middle of the sides of the body.

The entire length of the body from head to hoad is about two feet, and the weight of the creature is about twelve pounds, figures which show ample size and weight for two healthy children. Up to the present writing the babe or babies is or are enjoying good health, and the mother, a small-sized woman, is doing very well.^^^g
