R. S. Burk, of Terre Haute, is visiting friends here. The car shops that he worked in have shut down and all the employes are thrown out of work.
Twenty-four men, with S. H. Shaver, Cal Barnhill and F. 0. Maxwell as leaders, hunted an entire day last week and killed but three squirrels,
S. A. Trout exhausted his supply of gasoline during the rainy weather and before he could get any more his incubator cooled. He DOW mourns the loss of 10 dozen chicks that were almost ready to batch.

Lou King is suffering from a very sore eye. John Keliison was a caller here, last Thursday.
John McGinnisand wife, of Ohio, are visiting here. Miss Mitchell, of Elmdale, will work for Miss Hanna.
Ben King transacted business at Balhinch last Monday. Charles Patton and family Sundayed at Geo, Pierce's.
Mr. Cadwell is working for Jas. Coleman this summer. Rachel Henderson, of Sugar Grove, is visiting her parents.
Mrs. Carrie Tunilison IB very sick and not expected to live. Anna Brown, of Crawfordsville, is staying at Miss Hanna's.
Frank Quillen and mother were In Crawfordsville, Monday. Albert PerkinB and wife visited Frank Kincaid last Friday.

The children's exercises at New Richmond were grand, and well attended. Joseph Bennett will commence posting bills next week for Pulliman & Co., of Terre Haute.
Carey Keliison, of Mt, Olivet, passed through here Sunday evening with his best girl enroute to New Richmond.
A basket meeting will be held in Capt Tribby's grove, three milee south of New Richmond, the 3rd Sunday of this month.

Mr. Wilhite is putting up a beef shop to be occupied by Easley & Bayless. The Vandalia company has located their depot and will be built in the near future.
High Delenie's child is dangerously ill with brain fever and not expected to live but a short time.
The protracted rain has made it too wet for the corn and it will be too wet to plow for several days.
There is a great demand for houses as New Market is on the boom. It is situated on the Vandalia, six miles south-west of Crawfordssviiie and located in a rich part of the county. It baa three stores, two black smith shops, one tile factory, one barber shop, one dress maker, one mlliner shop, one corn crusher, one elevator and two doctors.

Will Yorlt, Cal Berry, Ike Landman, Chas. Shurr, Rome Bunnell, John Brant and Will Armstrong were in Hillsboro Sunday.
Misses Lou Williams,of Crawfordsville, Dora Henkle and Lota Wolfe, of Brazil, spent Sunday here the guest of Miss Katie Steele.
The republican ringsters had hardly completed eating their crow over the selection of J. S. Zuck for county Superintendent until they were treated to another good dose in the selection of a town school trustee. Having a majority on the board they thought they could easily make the board of trustees their way, but they were badly fooled when Councilman John P. Brown voted for Dr. Culver making the board democratic.
The children's day exercises at the Christian church Sunday night was quite a creditable and interesting affair the recitations being very fine and for which the credit is largely due to Mrs. Owen who managed the exercises. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers, evergreens and flags and among the speakers special mention should be made of little Mary Fields, Blanche Zuck, Lou Rainey Gail Kelley and the singing of Miss Bailey.

Mont Booher has failed to report since Monday. Sugar Creek has been higher than for three years.
William Durham lost his off wheel horse this week. The Luthorians are having their conferance this week.
Curtice Harper is confined to his bed with a sore throat. Mrs. O. Worbington, of Ohio, is visiting friends here.
Charley Harris is breaking mules to work for Ira Booher. Harlin & Kashner shipped two car loads of hogs this week.
Every day in town will be Sunday when the farmers got to plowing. The Indians have left town and are now at Colfax talking Sagwaw.
Mrs. Geo. Smith and daughter from Vincennes are here visiting friends. Ira Booher had a horse badly hurt on the barb wine fence last Tuesday.
W. H. H. Smith has been on the jury at Crawfordsville for the last three week. The steam shqvel in Lye creek is shoveling out the mud and gravel at a lively rate.
Henry Shotts and Mr. Russell, ef near Linden, were here last Wednesday on business.

There are fifteen preachers at the conferance, of the Lutherians, at their church 3 miles east of town.
The chickens near the Lntherian church will suffer death this week. Just think fifteen preachers, my! my!
We have had a fine rain although It stopped the farmers from plowing for some time but it is just what we needed.
Taylor Hubbard took Shriver & Co., to Spencer, driving there in one day and back to Crawfordsville the next day.

Mrs. George Yancleave had a tooth pulled Monday and she bled constantly for
hours
before Bhe got the blood stopped. Wm. Snyder and family, after a five week's visit at Rockville returned Borne last week. Mrs. Snyder is not able to work yet.
New Richmond scribe gives those neighbors of his the plain truth. He must give them straight goods as they would defend themselves.
Childrens' day was observed here last Sunday night and had a good time. The children did well. Rev. E. R. Johnson inady a ten minute speech.
There have been more tramps around town than ever before. One came along Sunday almost naked. What will become of these un' fortunate people God only knows.
C. E. Thompson & Son have dissolved partnership by mutual consent and Tim will go to echool in Ohio, and learn telegraphing. Ed Booher will most likely^gp with Thompson to scbooi.

Miss Ollie Manning died Mny 31st, of consumption and was buried the next day at the Rice cemetery north of town. She leaves father, mother, 4 brothers, 3 sisters to mourn her loss.
Geo. Carson, of the place, has brought suit against Wash Conard, his father-in-law for parting him and bis wife. Last Wednesday some of our citizens were called to court to testify in the case.
Rev. Wm. Warbington landed here last Wednesday morning. He lives in Ohio but formerly lived at Thorntown. It is reported that he will preach at the New Light church Sunday in this place.
The band boys got ten dollars for playing decoration day which was all right The Mosart club sang songs about with them and got nothing. One of the singers said she thought it was not right and eo do we say SO.
Elonzo Shriver, S. Hatch', Wm. Murphy, and F. Gobin went to Spencer, Owen county, the first of the week to build a house for a traveling man who took a notion he wanted a house like W.H, Booher's, of this place and he wanted the same men to build it.
Some bad boy, while the ice cream supper was going on last Thursday night at the Lutherian church cut one of Andrew Booher's tugs on his harness. Now that was not funny or smart and did not damage Andrew much as be is a harness maker and could mend his own hainess.
