To tlie I'en for Life
Sheriff Ed Nicholas, of Parke county, passed through Indianapolis last week on his way ,to Jeffersonrille with it celebrated prisoner. He is David Watson of Rockvilie, an old man of 5fi years, who was sentenced last week to penal servitude for live. He had a mighty narrow escape from a worse fate, for it was a deliberate and cruel murder, but ex-Congress-man Johnson, who defended him, impressed the jury with the fact that he was subject to epileptic fits and there might be some grounds to believe that the plea of insauity was not wholly incorrect. However, Watson stands a pretty good show of never again breating free air. He is a tnan of medium hight, with a full reddish beard tinged with grey, pale spare features and cold blue eyes. He looks like a man who gets dreadfully angry when he loses his temper, and he lost very completely on Sept. 28, 1888. John Hudson had poisoned bis dog and met him in front of the post office with the sneering inquiry: -'Have you auy more dog meat you old Watson went to his butcher shop, got kuife and almost cut the main artery near the heart, the second entered the heart sac and two more more quickly delivered blows aimed at the dying mau slashhis arm. Hudson left a wife and five daughters.
A Surplus of Trumps.
There was uever a time known wnen so many tramps were passing through and loitering around the towns in this state. A party of them were arrested by the officers here last Friday night and one of them was accidently shot in the leg. They lay around the outskirts of the city in large parties. In the smaller towns parties of them come in and go out every day. A REVIEW man saw a group at Linden a few days ago and asked them where they.were going to which they replied oh! any where. There were two young boys in the party one of whom, said he wanted to get home, as this thing of being on the road was not what it was built iu air castles. The oldtimers laughbd at him and seemed to think work was a disgrace. They did not care where they went so it was someiwhere and them could "bum the chuck" in slang phrase which means beg enough to eat. One fellow said he had not been in a bed for a year and did not know when he took his clothes off. His mangy dirty looks, verified his story.

Struck by Lightning.
The Sunday night storm performed some peculiar freaks near Hillsboro, over in theedge of Fountain county. Several head of stock was killed and trees were destroyed. The serious work was lightning striking Liberty church, about three miles south of that place. The bolt hit the roof and seemingly went through all parts of the building. Rev. J. C. My era, of State Line, was preaching and wits about half way through his sermou. He was thrown prostrated to the floor and was completely blinded for quite awhile. Several of the congregation were hurt, the most severely, was a Mr. Livengood, who had to be carried home. Rev Myers was taken to Danville, 111., Monday, to consult an occulist, as they thought he would loose his sight. The church is anew edifice and was badly damaged.
Minors Louvlng
The block coal miners are leaving Clay county daily. It is estimated that there were 3,000 at the time of the closing down of mines last fall, 1,000 of whom were then sent adrift that there were 2,000 when last year's scale expired May 1, of whom as many as 400 have left within the present month. A miner of many years experience said yesterday to your reporter: "If a scale is not agreed on within a very short time, there will not be 1,000 miners left in the block district. They go on almost every train and in every directions—some to the bituminous mines in adjoining territory others to the mines of Illinois, Ohio and Pennsylvania."
A Ma«l Dog Chase.
Yesterday morning the people living on the Perrysvme road were in a great state of excitement over the appearance of a mad dog. The dog came running down the road biting everything it came in contact with, the first object falling a victim to Its bite was a cow belonging to Ike Fellick. Mr. Follick immediately set out to kill the dog and when near Wallace he succeeded iu doing so, but not until another cow belonging to John Kybarger had been bitten. Dogs will suffer in that community. The cows attacked by the dog will be watched carefully. —Waynetowu Hornet.
Robert A. Gunn, M. D., Dean and Professor of Surgery of the United States Medical College, Editor of Medical Tribune, author of Gunn's New Improved handbook of Hygiene and Domestic Medicine, says over his own signature in addressing the proprietors of Warner's Safe Cure: "I cannot be true to my convictions unless I extend a helping hand and endorse all I know to be good and trustworthy Your grapic descriptions of diseases of the kidneys and liver hove awakened the medical profession to the fact of their great increase. Physiciaus have been experimentally treatiug this disease, and while casting about for an authorized remedy, their patients have died on their hands,"
