the Threshing Machines then in use were almost wholly of the class known as the Endless Apron" style. Then it was that Nichols & Shepard, of Battle Creek, Mich., inventedand began to develop an entirely new and novel style of Grain Thresher and Separator .which they very appropriately named the "Vibrator."

It was a revolution in Threshing Machines, and from a small beginning of five machines in 1858 they soon reached a product of i,000 yearly. ^Their Vibrator drove the Endless Apron" machine out of market, and all other makers copied it as closely as they dared. Today all Threshing Machines of any reputation or merit use the principles of the old Vibrator. Nichols & Shepard have continued in the business without change of name, location, or management and during the past three years have brought out and developed another new Threshing Machine for grain and seeds, as superior to all existing machines as their former was to the Endless Apron.' They name this new and improved Thresher

and predict as great a revolution in the trade, and as complete success over all rivals as they had thirty-one years ago.

Tlio DePauw College Club Fulls an Kmy Victim to Wabash. The cranks on base ball (and the writer is among them) have not been favored with a good game this year until Saturday, when the DePauw college base ball club, ot Greencastle, came up to cross bats with our favorites, the Wabash boys. Fully 400 of the cranks were present, and though from reports we all expected to see the home boys get left we were all overwhelmed with joy to see the other fellows easily placed in the soup. Harness had the visitors at his mercy from the beginning as they only made three hits off of him, two of thein being scratches. Both clubs had a bad inning in which the score rolled up, but it was a good game, and the "Wahoo" boys have reason to be proud of their excellent club. The score by innings is. 1 2 3 4 5 8 7 8 9

Wabash 0 0 2 2 8 0 0 0 1—8 DoPauw 0 1 0 0 0 3 0 0 0—4 BASK HITS.

No flies on Fraukie Shull. Where was Lucas with his batting clothes? Seaton is a good bitter aud makes a good captain.

Sheldon is one of the best players in the Wabish club. Carson, the big first baseman, looked very much like Bistnark, of the Salvation Army.

Pulse played a good second for the visitors, but where did lie get that bat he wore after the game?

Miner, the clever little catcher for DePauw, is the same fellow who sang at the DePauw concert and had the long raven locks. Every one remembers that occasion.

Jerry Bacou is the center fielder of the DePauw club, who has a face that would stop a ball. Jerry began his Latham coaching, Saturday, but the kids were soon onto him with both feet.

McCauley is pitching for Peoria this year and did some great woik against the Davenports last week as they only got three hits off of him. all singles. Mac is a great pitcher when he wants to do the work.

Charley Prescott, who was here this spring, has joined the Dayton club and is doing good work. Iu a game last Friday he caught, and defeated the opponents from Springfield. Pressy had two singles and a two-bagger to bis record.

Harness and Randall were the clever battery tr Wabash, Saturday. They did fine work. Sheepy did drop a ball occasionally and Farmer Harness thought Shull was on stilts when he threw at the barbed-wire fence, but they got the game and we were all happy.

Danville, Decatur, Bloomington, Champaign, South Bend and Logansport have organized a league called the Illinois Slate League. They want to get to work by the 25th of this month. Crawfordsville eeeins to have no sports who want to try their luck at the business.

The following gentlemen composed the Wabash club: Shull, 1 Harness, Brewer, rf Seaton, (capt) 2b Lucas, ss Randall, Sheldon, cf Duckworth, 8b McClure, If. The visitors, Eisenbeiss, 3b Miner, Dougan, flouts, rf Bacon, cf Carson, lb Pulse, 2b Miller, If Deford, ss.

Charley Hoskins is being hit hard this year, so the reports go. The dude is with Peoria aud has many friends who want to see him play good ball and are sorry to see him leave the box during a game, buthe was compelled to do that at Danville once last summer and after that put up a good game.

Ike Warren was the handsome umpire that came up with the DePauw boys, and a more houest man never stepped behind the plate. He was a favorite with all the crowd and was the first stranger to give satisfaction to a Crawfordsville crowd, and besides being a good umpire he !B one of the most clever gentlemen that ever visited our city.

We received a letter this week from Albert Fisher, the clever young shortstop who was in our club last year. The Kid is playing with Peoria this year and says he is finding the trade mark quite often. We learn from other sources that he is doing fine work and that Peoria people are stuck on his playing. One thing Is certain, the Kid had as many friends as any player in our club laBt year.

"A Word to the Wise is Sufficient." Catarrh is not simply an inconvenience, unpleasant to the sufferer and disgusting to others—it is an advanced outpost of approaching disease ot worst type. Do not neglect its warning it bring deadly evils in its train. Before it is too late, use Dr. Safe's Catarrh Remedy. It reaches the seat of the ailment, and is the only thing that will. You may dose yourself with quack medicines 'till the streamlet becomes restless torrent. It is the matured invention of a scientific physician. "A word to the wise is sufficient."

The funeral of Wm. H. Barnum took place Friday at Lime Rock, Conn.

A young lady ot East Nottingham, Pa., in strolling through afield the other day found thirty-six four-leaf clovers and some with five leaves.

A woman in Findlay, O., and a friend ot hers in Utica, N. Y., dreamed the same identical dream on the same night, although hundreds of miles apart. Both dreamed of funerals, ot course.

A Great Battle

Is continually going on In the human system. The demon of impure blood strives to gain victory over the constitution, to ruin health, to drag victims to the grave. A good reliable medicine like Hood's sarsaparilla is the weapon with which to defend one's self, drive the desperate enemy from the field and restore peace and bodily health for many years. A Woman's Discovery.

"Another wonderful discovery has been made and that too by a lady of this country. Disease fastened its clutches upon her and for sevea years she withstood its severest test, but her vital organs were undermined and death seemed imminent. For three months she coughed incessantly and could not sleep. She bought of us a bottle of Dr. King's new discovery for consumption and was so much relieved on taking first dose that she slept all night and with one bottle has been miraculously cured. Her name is Mrs. Luther Lutz." TfciB write W. C. Hammick & Co., of Shelby, N. C.—Get a trial bottle at Nye & Co's., drug store.
