the Threshing Machines then in use were almost wholly of the class known as the Endless Apron" style. Then it was that Nichols & Shepard, of Battle Creek, Mich, .inventedandbegan to develop an entirely new and novel style of Grain Thresher and Separator, which they very appropriately named the "Vibrator."
It was a revolution in Threshing Machines, and from a small beginning' of five machines in 1858 they soon reached a product of 1,000 yearly. ^Their Vibrator drove the Endless Apron" machine out of market, and all other makers copied it as closely as they dared. Today all Threshing Machines of any reputation or merit use the principles of the old Vibrator. Nichols & Shepard have continued in the business without change of name, location, or management and during the past three years have brought out and developed another new Threshing Machine for grain and seeds, as superior to all existing machines as their former-was to the Endless Apron.' Last Saturday Charles Ratcliff and William Keller, got into a fight, near Kingman, this county over some difficulty that occurred previously, which resulted in Keller being severely whipped by Ratcliff, who, during the fight, cut his head frightfully with a rock which he held in his hand. Such disgraceful scenes should not occur, and could surely be prohibited by the intervention of friends. Keller is said to be improving rapidly from his severe drubbing aud we hope this will be the last and that both will shake hands aud call the account settled in full.—Spence's Paper.

An exchange says three of the stingiest men living are residents of that city. The first will not drink as much water as he wants unless it conies from a neighbor's well. The second foibids any of his family writiug anything but a small hand, as it is a waste of ink to make large letters. The third stops the clock at night to save the wear on the machinery. All of them refuse to take a newspaper on the ground that it- is such a terrible strain on their spectacles to read the newspaper, even in the day time but they are always anxious to hear the news or to borrow, or read some one elses papers.
