Tho Terro Haute Gazette gets in a home thrust in this wise. Last fall a farmer appeared in a Republican procession with his wagon loaded down with farm products labled "fruits of protection. The Gazette suggested that in all probability there was a sheaf of wheat in that wagon bound with binder twine and in view of the recent exhorbitant rise iu the price in that article which a tariff protected trust will force on the farmer, the Gazette suggests that tho greatest vegtable in that farmers wagon was himself and ho ought to begin to see it.

While loading saw logs one clay last week, Mr. Lawson, of Sugar Creek, was so unfortunate as to have one slip and roll upon bim, breaking one of Liis legs above the knee, and three of his ribs. The broken limb bad already been amputated below the knee because of a previous injury, and this last mishap necessitated auolher amputation above the knee. It is thought however that Mr. Lawson will get well.—

Sunday morning at II o'clock the inadstone owned by Mrs. Taylor, of north ninth street, was applied to the 11-year-old daughter of Mr. John Kirk, of Rush county, who brought his three daughters and -1-year-old son here to test the efficacy of the famous stone. Tho stone after the lapse of eleven hours still adhered. The dog bit two sisters of this child and either scratched or bit a 4-year-old brother. The inadstone was applied to the boy Saturday night, but would not adhere, aud this confirms the'impression that his injury is from a scratch. The wounds of the three girls are not deep, but blood was drawn. The inadstone was thoroughly saturated and the cloth about it soaked with poisonous looking matter The longest tune the stone ever adhered before this aplication was fourteen hours, and that was many years ago. The stone will be ap" plied to one of the other children to-day. Mr. Kirk is stopping with his brother-in-law, Mr. Geo. Elder. The dog was not bitten by another dog so far as known, but the manner of his death was in accordance with all the symptoms of hydrophobia.—Terre Haute Express.

Mrs. Isaac Coon died at her residence on Monday afternoon, of consumption, aged 53 years and 16 days. It can be said of her that a good woman has passed death unto life. Prayer was offered at the house Wednesday morning when the solemn funeral cortege started to Newtown where services were held at 11 o'clock iu the Baptist church conducted by Rev. C. B. Boes, and interment at the Hopewell cemetery west of the villiage by Undertaker Merrcll.

Uncle Thomas Gray died at the residence of James Gray on last Saturday. Mr. Gray was born May 12, 18151, aud was married to Elizabeth A. Fields, January 6, 1842. There was born to them three children Eliza, Joseph, and William, They all died in infancy, and on January ft, 1855, Ins wife died leaving hitu tho sole survivor of his own home. A brief sickness that was born without a inurmer terminated his life on March 10, 188!l at the advanced age of (59 years 20 mouths and 4 days. Uncle Thomas leates one brother and four sisters, and as many friends as ho had found acquaiuteuces, ho had no enemies He was laid to rest til the Masonic cemotery, Sunday at 2 o'clock by Undertaker Merrell.

Albert Thompson lost an open faced Rockford watch oil Church street, Thursday. The finder will please return to tho owner and receive a liberal reward.—Wayuetown Hornet.

A neighbor tells us that a few days ago a one armed man stopped at a farm house aud asked for a nights lodging. The owner remarked that he supposed he had been the war, and an affirmative reply was made. As the conversation progressed the bouse owner remarked, "It seems to me you should bo drawing a pension," aud tho reply was, "Ah, my friend I was on the other side." This reply was unforliiuate, for he was immediately told that ho could not lodge there. The cripple started off and stopping at the next house, tho home of an old soldier, he asked for lodging and told his story. Ho was welcomed to the house, given a good supper, a good bed, a good breakfast the next morning, and went on Ins way rejoicing, ".inasmuch as vo have done it to the least of these, ye have done it unto me."— Greenuast-le Star Press.

The county commissioners have ordered a second investigation oT ex-treasurer Miles accounts, mid ex-auditor Win. Lamb has been employed to do tho work. On the face of it I Ins looks like a queer transaction, but the board is quite often guilty of "freaks anil not much surprise will be occasioned by this latest. one. The onlv reason given for this extra expense appears to be that the county attorney whose views are as sacred as Scripture in the eyes of the board, desired it. The result of the iiivesligatiau will doubtless throw some light on (lie object of the commissioners, who move in a mysterious way tlieir wonders to perform.

The Bnrdens of Womanhood. Thousands of women are silently suffering untold misery, simply because they shrink from consulting a physician in those numerous complaints arising from functional irregularities and disorders. Matter of Interest CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Juno 27,1888,

The Swift Specific Co., Atlanta, Ga.: Gentlemen—In 1886 I contracted blood poison, and at once sought a physican, who treated me for soveral months. By his advice I went to Crab Oachrrd Spring, Ky., where his course of treatment was carefully observed. I recovered, but the next spring pimples began to appear on my fact aud body. These gradually increased to sores and running ulcers. I was advised to try S. S. S., and immediately after taken it I commenced to improve, slowly at first, but rapidly afterwards and soon nothing remained »f tell of my trouble. My blood is now thoroughly cleansed, and my system free from taint, and I owe my present condition—a perfect cure— to your mediciue. I cheerfully give this statement that others who suffered as I have may reap the same benefit.
