Liua Sanford, of New Ross, has been spend, ing a few days visiting friends in this vicinity. Friday night's exercises by the school were a success. They consisted of music, recitations, dialogues, etc.
Mrs. Stall, an elocutionist from Thorntowu, gave some very interesting recitations here Saturday after the contest. She is an elocutionist worthy of the name.
The Fraukiiu township declaiming contest occurred here last Saturday evening, The contestants were greeted by a large and appreciative audience. The speakers all acquitted themselves well and the exercises were very entertaiuiug. May Shannou, of the Shannondale schools, was the successful contestant.

J. M. Stevenson will move to this place in the spring as he has rented his farm. It is thought that the meeting that has be*n in progress so long will close this week.

The I. O. G. T, order in this place seems to be doing well, as some of its members have not been on a spree for the past two weeks.
One man not far from here comes up here every few days to get the papers from Louisville. He is anxious to hear the news from the South as well as from the North.
They say some young men who have been attending church during the revival meeting just go to make sport of others'and see how much of a puddle of tobacco juice they can make ou the church floor.
It ha3 been said that there is a mail here that has not been attending the revival meetings, but can tell what have said by the members of the church ever since it lias been go. ing on. He certainly has a good knowledge box to recollect what others say.
Our township trustee has at last succeeded in getting the family of Chris Schuier away from our town, though he has been gone some time to Chicago where his wife aud family have gone on the hunt of him. That is said to be no new trick for him leaving his family as he has done the same before.

Dr. Berryman had his public sale last week and the property sold well. The sale amounted to nearly $1,000. The Doctor will most likely move to this place.
John Gun tie, of this place, received a telegram from Whitesville, Wednesday, stat.iug that his aged mother was not expected lo live. Her age is nearly !I0 years.
Win. Moore, our constable, is still taking iu the property bought by Betts ,V Craig and selling at constable sale. He took in three corn planters last week that were stored away in a private barn in this town.
Ira Booher, our harness man, wants to trade buggies, wagons, carts, harness or anything in hf3 line for horses. He will trade for good horses or good plug horses. Come everybody and see his stock of goods.
Never since Adam eat the forbidden fruit has there been so great a quantity of feed in the country nt this time of year. To go in the country aud see great fields of fodder and hay not yet touched is surprising.
Old Mr. Martin arrived here last week from Kansas. He is almost helpless. He saye he wants to go back to Kansas, and when his life is ended to be buried by the side of his wife, who died there a few weeks ago.
The officers ot the Vandalia have decided not to build Darlington a new depot this summer. Tho money was made up to buy a lot and give them if they would build this summer, but they declined. It will be a cold day when they get this offer again.
A nautical and temperance drama in three acts will be played at Hulei's hall to-night for the benefit of the Darlington band. Everybody come and help tiro boys out as they have been to a great expense, and a band is for the good of the community.

Our stores are having a good trade, considering the time of the year when nothing much is expected in that line. The town is having a boom and the business men are thankful.
The post office still remains at Geo. Long's, but wo are informed that efforts will be made to change it, and people, as of eld, will be compelled to look in the highway for their mail.
The new gravel road that is to be constructed, running west from this place, will be a very nice thing for the people along the line as there are places that are almost impassible in tha winter.
Jack Jerratt says he dou't like to be blamed with what his neighbors do, especially when it comes to poisoning dogs. Jack has a very good idea who has the poison, and he may be be right.
Bob McComas, the brilliant Crawfordsvilla clerk, was in town hunting eggs for his firm the first of the week. Bob ran tell you all you want to know of Crawfordsville in a very few moments.
There is a young man in our neighborhood who haB his appointments and goes on a two days' visit to each of his acquaintances until ho gets around and then he repeats it. Some ho visits are getting very tired, and would rather lake him as a boarder than a visitor. May lie this item will give him a hint.

The legislature organized here is creating quite an interest. They have elected a Governor and Lieut-Governor and have several bills for action at their next meeting.
The railway company should have some one at the depot for the early morning train, as there is not a morning but what there are several passengers who are compelled to stand out in the cold until the train arrives.
Morris Herzog has returned from Chicago where he purchased a new stock of dry goods and will open up In the room formerly occupied by him. Mr. H. has many friends here that will stand by him and tho Dutchman will get his share of the trade.

The pupils of R. E. Ray's room of the public school celebrated Lucy Fellows' birthday with an entertainment in Armory Hall. It was very creditable and the participants are deserving of much praise, especially the teacher, Mr. Ray, the Misses Herzog, Smalley, Stella Hill, Ollie Faunco, Mamie Fields, Jim Bunnell, Sant Gray and Walter Dwiggins. They will probably give another entertainment at the closing of the school.
