Some time ago the Crawfoidsville Arj News, S. M. Coft'uian, editor aud proprietor, published a sensational article statiug that A. T. Kelhsou, residing near Darlingtou, hail seduced Carrie Alexander and brought her to this -City to hide her shame.
This was followed by the strenuous denial of the parties interested, and Mr. Kellison produced evidence of having married Miss Alexander some time before the article was published.
Then Mrs. Kellison preferred a 5515,000 damage and libel suit against S. M. Coffuian who published the obnoxiotiB article first.
The action brought Friday was au affidavit on information filed by Prosecutor Haywood and James B. Miluer, charging S. M. Coffmau with assault and battery on Mrs. Kellison while in this city. The affidavit is for criminal actiou in tho matter.
Mrs. Kellison asserts that after the article was published Coffmau visited her here and endeavored to extort a confession of its truthfulness from her, He asked her to say that she had been seduced and was then iu a delicate condition. She refused to make such au assertion. He changed his persuasion then to force and rudely seized her by the shoulders, placing one hand on her abdomen. The charge of assault and battery is based on these assertion. This charge will be heard here and the civil action will probably be tried at Crawfordsville. The trial promises to briug out some very interesting points and is certainly peculiar case. The matter has awakened much interest here and iu Montgomery couuty
