The great lynx drive in the north part of tho township on Tuesday resulted in catching four foxes, but no lynx, none even being Been. There were several hundrod people engaged in the sport—Wavelaud Independent
The Indiana Legislature is about to pass a law paying a bounty for dead English spar rows—ono cent for ten birds. Anticipating this law last summer we commenced shooting sparrows and put a hole through the devil's leg. Perhaps the members of our Legislature had heard of this aud, knowing Satan's habit of "coming also," were banking on somebody killing the devil. We know of no sot of men who have greater reason to earnestly desire such a casuality.—Rockville Tribune. .S ':'.
About two months ago while packing eggs, Glenn 0. Dicks wrote his name aud address upon one of the eggs. Undor date of January 19, Mrs. Augusta Brown, of 219 east 81th street, New York City, wrote Glenn that the egg had come into her possession.—Lebanon Patriot.
The delinquent list published last Tuesday, January 22d, iu the Veedersburg Reporter, under date, Friday, January 18th, will fail to make the publication a legal one. Tho law in regard to its publication is emphatic aud states most explicitly that it shall bo published at least twenty-one days before the lauds and lots are offered for salo. Its appearance iu the Reporter was delayed beyond tho regular publication day of the Reporter from Friday the 18th to Tuesday tho 22nd, thus leaving only uine days in January aud teu iu February, making a total or only nineteen days. The list could not now be published to make it a legal oue.— Sponce's Paper.
A young man of Shelburn, named Clark Stanley, met with an accident a few days ago which caused his death. He had a fence paling in his hand aud was chasing a cow. He struck at tho cow as he was ruuning and the end of the paling struck the ground, while his body came against the other end, puncturing him in tho groin. Tho end of the stick did not break tho skin, but the force of the blow was sufficient to injure some internal organ which produced death on Saturday.—Sullivan Democrat.

In trying to gain a solid footing, his face aud bauds were badly lacerated on the jaugged edges ot tho ice. He emerged from the water a wetter aud wiser man. He lost a fine gold watch aud chain iu the little affair,—Ladoga Leader.

will just say let them fight it out among themselves.—'Waynetown Hornet.
About the last week in December of each year a small baud of Iudians arrive in tho vicinity of Chesterfield, 111., and camp on tho bauks of the Okaw at a point where a high bluff overlooks tho stream. They are a motley crowd of both sexes, but they molest no ono and are generally well supplied with provisions, tents, blaukets, etc., and it is stated that they make this annual visit, to ihe spot to pay honor to the memory ot a brave chief who was buried there over sixty years ago. Places have been found on the bluff where they have dug out pits, aud the common belief is that a large sum of gold and siirer is buried there, which tho band has apparently sought in vain. Tho money is said to have been paid to tho tribe of Kickapoos which inhabited this section at an early day by the government in return for a large tract of land in what is now the garden spot of Illinois. Tho band broke camp a (in) or two ago aud solemnly took up then match for the West.—Newport lloosier State.
What might have linen a serious accident happened to Ray and Lester Gill and Gci.ild Nicholson last week. Dick Gill bad loaned his shot gun and when it was returned, the folks not being at home, it was left in the baby carriage iu tho room. The gnu was loaded but had no caps on the tubes. The boy came ill aud thought they would have some fun snapping caps, they not thinking the gun was loaded. Master Ray placed a cap on the gun and when the results were known—the baby carriage was in pieces and on fire and Ray was minus a portion of a tooth. Tho boys had presence of mind enough to get a bucket of water and put out the tire. It is safe to say tliey will not fool with the gun again soon.— Ladoga Leader.
The many friends of Dr. Heighway, V, S.^ will bo glad to learn that ho is rapidly recovering from the wouud received while treating tho horse of Lewis Borden's as noticed iu the Leader of last week. His visit to Torre Haute was very satisfactory as the mad-stone which was applied to the wound entirely removed the poison from the system. The stone adhered to his hand for thirteen hours at oue time and ten at anothor. Those who formerly doubted that any virtue existed in mad-stone have been convinced that there is after all such a thing in existence. We aro all pleased that the Doctor came off so easily.—Ladoga Leider.

Applied to Hood's sarsaparilla, the word peculiar is of great importance. It means that Hood's sarsaparilla is different from other preparations in many vital points, which make it a thoroughly honest and reliable medicine. It is peculiar, in a strictly inedineal sense: first, in the "combination of remdial agents used: second, in the proportion in which I hey are prepared: third, in the process by which the active curative properties of the medicine are secured. Study these points well. They mean volumes. They make Hood's sarsaparilla peculiar in its curative powers, as it accomplishes wonderful cures hitherto unknown and which give to Hood's sarsaparilla a clear right to tho title of "The greatest blood purifier ever discovered."
