EXCHANGK SAYINGS.
Tho real estate trade has been very active for the past two weeks. This, it seems, would indicate something of the coming boom. J. J. Shackelford has bought the interest of P. M. Fudge In the store room occupied by Lough aud Biddle, and the bail above Ben Williams has bought the ground occupied by the Mill's House Taylor Bell has bought of J. L. Wilson the land lying between the Normal and Abe Havens' lot Elias Hall has bought of J. L, Wilson the laud which be had lying north of the Midland. All of these transactions, except the trade of Fudge and Shackelford, mean the building of so many houses. The growth of Ladoga is steady and substantial.—Ladoga Leader. ••./V-

Parke county furuishes an immense amount of railroad ties, staves, etc. One firm alone, since the first of last May, has received and shipped nearly 200 car loads of ties at different points in Parke county, besides sending about 500,000 green staves into Terre Haute every year. And there are also other parties dealing iu these commodities besides the firm referred to. The firm referred to deliver to tho Vandaiia railroad in tlm neighborhood of 4,000 ties per month.—Rockville Eagle.
Case Arnold's great gastronomic feat, particulars of which are given in another column, will not astonish Case's Attica friends. They have seen his capacity tested on eggs raw, eggs hailed, eggs fried, and down them as fast as they could be furnished. They have seen him tackle a rfcstauraut aud devour all the oysters on the premises and ask for more. They have Been him in a pie contest, when Washington pies were run through his grinding apparatus without breaking a cog. In fact, he's not only eggs-traordinary on hen fruit but he's a wonder on 3II of eatables.—Attica Ledger.
Last Tuesday night a dance occurred at the residence of Charles Miller, and duiing the tiuio that Jim Allen was ala-mant-ing the coruer lady, and Dan Briney was going through the grand chain, some infernal wretch threw half a brick through the window, striking Jim square on the eye, and Dan's partner, seeing the mlssle coming, threw up her hand to guard the half brick from striking her, but missed It, and her finger nail—an extremely long one— caught Dan on the side of the nose, lacerating it fearfully. One hundred dollars reward Is offered for the arrest and conviction of the scoundrel.—Spence's Paper.
On Sunday night last about thirty bushels of corn was stolen front the crib on the farm of Mort Steel.v, about three miles northeast of town. When Movt discovered the theft he proceeded to track the tblef by uienog of the com scattered along the road, and finally found the wagon load of corn stnnd'ng beside the crib of one Holycross, of Pei iysville. The country was scoured in the search, and Mort went to Danville expecting to find the thief there, but in vain. So he disposed of the corn in Peirysville aud returned to Covington.— Covington Friend.
The moral atmosphere of our town Is dealing. On Monday, six persons, who were Indicted by the last grand jmy for gambling, were tried at Crawfordsv lie and fined. The amounts langed from $18 to $S8, the latter being assessed agaiust Willie Steele for keeping a gambling house. It is said Lhat some Waveland citizens plead with Judge Snyder to make the fines as light ps possible, because they were all poor men. The boys got mad, aud gave others away, aud on Weduesday Deputy Sheriff Davis came down with warrants for eight or ten mere, who were taken before Judge Snyder, Thursday, and fined. It is said there are at least fifty Indictments against Waveland men, and there is no telling where the thing will slop. Prosecutor Anderson also came down on Wednesday, with an evident determination to probe the matter to the bol torn. One fine was assessed for disturbing the Christmas entertainment at the Presbyterian church, and another will be also two for illegal sp'e of intoxicants. A "court of inquiry" was convened, and the prosecutor left with an arinful of documents with which somebody will become inoie or le?" familiar. Some staviling developments may be expected.— Waveland Independent.

Let me tell a little story, about a little man That lived upon this hemisphere, where life Is but a span. He hud a tittle, griping pain, just forward of bis spine, Which gavebim many troubles at tfle time he wished to dine. It doubled him, twisted him and drew him out of shape And caused hlm'inany nuslngs on the subject of black crape. lie knit his his brows and bent him as if in earnest prayer, lie gnashed hiB teeth in ogony, and then began to swear. The earnest on his features grew convincing In its glare IXis hands were clenched, his eyes were sot, in that peculiar stare Which betokens direst agony, andliwhispers, "Give it up Or seize a hasty remedy, with eagerness to sup." All hope had wcllnigli fled him, amidst his howling Ills, When his eye fcllon a little box jhc read "Small's
Vegetable Liver Pills." With eagerness he seizes it pills down his gullet run— Those pills went right straight throughjhim like bullets from a gun. What followed does not matter enough tho man was ciired And health aud strength and beauty nnto him was assured. The moral ol this story is plain to human eyes When you've a little griping paia go thou and do likewise. D22tf|pp
