WE hare received a circular from a brazenfaced he-woman calling herself Victoria C. Woodhull, announcing herself ns a candidate for President. Victoria, wc believe, is a resident of New York city. If abeghas any friends we adviso them to send her to Salt Lake City, where under the guardianship of Brigham Young she may learn some of the primativc duties of her sex.

Another Railroad Projected. A number of gentlemen, residents of our county, hold a meeting in the city last Tuesday afternoon and resolved to build a Narrow Guagc railwny from this city to the prolific coal fields of Fountain county. The fact that many of the participants of the meeting aro deeply interested in developing tlie coal and mineral resources of that portion of the Stato indicate that they mean business, nnd that sooner or later the road will bo built.

The Crawfordsville and Wabasli Railway Company. Tuesday last, at a meeting in this city attended by representatives from all the points interested, the Crawfordsville & Waliash Railway Company was formally organized by the election of Gen. Lew Wal. lace, President I. 0. EUton, Treasurer, and Joseph Milligan, Secretary. The directory was constituted ng follows: Messrs. Urial Deer, ef Ilarveysburg John Burnside, oi' Fulton township, Fountain county. W. B. Moffatt., of l'errysville and Abijah O'Neall, 1. C. Elslon, S. S. Thomson, Lew Wallace, John L. Campbell, and Joseph Milligan, of Crawfordsville. The capital stock was placed nl $10,000. 9-11, ISO was subscribed at tho meeting, being more than enough per mile to fill the requirements of the law.

Tho route adopted runs from Crawfordsville to Ilarveysburg, in Fountoin County, by way of Youutsvillr, Alamo, and Jacksonville. From Ilarveysburg, it branches one arm going to Purrysville, the other to Lodi.

The idea, it. is apparent, is to occupy cast and west tho cream of the mineral and timbered lands of Fountain county, admittedly tho riohost in Indiana. The road is to be narrow gungo, one advantage of which is, without doubt, economy of construction, which makes the enterprise simply a question of timo and industry ®Of tho points named, not one is, at this time, so greatly interested in tho undertaking as Crawfordsville. Its gunge will compol its stoppnge here, and here its managers must build itx shops, both car and machine. Hero also all its transfer and reshipment business must be done, in that way furnish occupation to moro resident employees than nil our other roads together.

By proper management, this Crawfordsville and Wabash railroad can be made the Loginning of manufacturing business, without which, it is all too apparent, our beautiful town must suffor. if not perish. Let thero be no hesitation on our part now, no pulling two ways, unity and hearty support will secure us this promising enterprise, with local advantages of every kind literally unexcelled.

We bid the stranger a hearty welcome.

l)aufcrou» Illness of Queen Victoria. should tho illness of Queen Victoria proe fatal, it would be followed by ovonts of the most important character. Indeed, we know of no one whose death would create so great a sensation. It is believed that monarchy in Great Britain is largely sustained by the personal respect which is generally entertained for tho Queen. There have been predictions that sho would be the last sovereign that would reign in the British Isles. The Prince of Wales, the heir to the throne, is extremely unpopular, he being a man of no ability, besides being destitute of virtue.

Queen ietoria has now been on the British throne since 18.17, when she succeeded to the inheritance of her uncle. William IV. Sho was then a girl of eighteen, being born in LSllt. At her birth there did not appear the slightest probability that sho would ever sway the scepter. Her grandfather, George III, was then King. After him came his son, George, the Princc of W ales. Should the latter die without issue, the crown would devolve on his brother, the Duke of York. In case he had no children (he throne would devolve on the Duko of Clarence, who was the third son. In the improbable eventuality of his having no children, the father of Victoria the Duke of Kent, the fourth son, would be in tho line of succession. Who could have supposed, under this state of things, that Victoria could ever become heir to the crown? But the death of her grandfather, Ler father, and her three uncles, without children, made her the next heir in succession. She has had a long and prosperous reign—«ne of the longest in the British annals. Being still a woman of but fiftytwo, hale and hearty, she has bid fkir to reign as long as her grandfather, George III, who was king from 1760 to 18*20, a period of sixty years. During her reign has generally been goverened by her Minister, and has been little more than a State puppet or figure-head. Only occasionally has she shown the obstinacy and self-will of her family, and personally inteiferred in the affairs of the Government. The most important instance of this was when she insisted on Lord Palmerston nodi?

fving and softening the pererntory dispatch which, as the head of Her Majesty's GOTpmtnenf. he had prepared to be sent to the United States, demanding in the moat imperative language the release of Mason and Slide)!, the ,/Sonthern Commissioners, who had been talen off the steamer Trent, bj an American man-of-war. The dispatch of Palmerston was each a measure that if it had been sent to the Lincoln Administration, it would hare bean followed by war. The Qneen knew this, and instigated by her husband, Prinee Albert, compelled licr Minister (o draw up the demand in more courteous language, which would produce no irritation at Washington. To her, therefore, is principally to be ascribed the failure of the South for, if England had interfered against the North, its prospects wouM hare been hopeless.

NEWS SUMMARY.

THE corn prospects in all parts of Arkansas continues excellent. At least onethird less, cotton was planted than, last year.

A TOLEHO dispatch says: "Brush fires arc becoming very frequent and destructive in many neighborhoods in consequence of the prolonged drought."

TELEKRAPIIIC communication is established between London ami Japan. Messages was sent from that city to Japan and answers returned on the sixteenth.

AT Elgin, Illinois, Monday night. Mrs. J. H. Smith was burned to death by the explosion of a kerosene lamp. She was going down stairs, and tripped and broke the l»mp.

A SALT LAKE dispatch says: "Rich sil-ver-bearing galena discoveries are reported to- day from Iron county, in Southern Utah. In the neighborhood arc vast deposits of iron." ,.

ON Monday the bodies of two men were discovered floating in the whirlpool at Niagara Falls. One of them has been recovered. They are supposed to have been the persons recently carried over the falls in a boat.

DURING the thunder-storm on Monday at. Cedar Rapids, a thunderbolt entered the telegraph office, passed to the lower story, and instantly killed a woman named Addie Eliza Mitchell, When hit she had her hand on the gas pipe.

THE terrible drought that has prevailed in Torre Haute for many weeks was broken by a heavy storm on the 10th instant. Rain fell in immense quantities, accompanied by a violent gale, which did considerable damage to roofs, fences, and light frame structures.

ADVICKS from Paris say the city is excited. The situation is threatning. Trouble is apprehended from various sources. On the lGth inst., the air was full of rumors that the army would revolt against the Versailles Assembly, declare McMahou regent, nnd demand the empire. People are leaving Paris in a stampede. Some believe that the Orlcaniats scheme is ripe for a coup d'etat being pushed by a proposition to make Theirs permanent Executive, which|it is feared would establish a Government not monarcliial. Theirs has no friends. He is hooted by Republicans, Royalists and Imperialists alike. A crisis is approaching.
