CINCINNATI,
June 17
Mr. Vallandingbaia died at eighteeu minutes before ten this morning. He went down very rapidly after three o'clock, having no pulse scarcely, after •that hour.
Dr. Daweon, of Cincinnati, arrived at three, but was too late to do any good for the dying man.
Judge Ilaynes. his law' partner1, from Dayton, reached Lebanon this morning, with other personal friendH, who were with him in hia last hour.
McGehan, in the defense of whose ease he loat hia life, wag taken from jail thi* morniug to his bedside, and ehed tears as he beheld the dying friend who had appeared during the progress of the trial, tu summon all his energy and legal acumen in hi« defence.
Mr. Kollet made his argument for the State yesterday, and was to have been followed this morning by Mr. Millikcn, and it was expectcd that Mr. Vallandingham would commence hiu argument this evening or Monday morning.
Judge Pope, before whom the trial wis proceeding, adjourned court ibis morning until Monday.
Mrs. Vallandingham started for Baltimore last evening, culled there by a dying brother.
Mr. Vallandingham'B body will be tuken at once to Dayton, rcuching there about three o'clock. BORROW FOR THE DEATH OFMIt. VAI,
LANDINOHAM—IIIS LAST HOURS.
CINCINNATI, June 17.
There has been much sorrow manifested here to day concerning the tragic end of Mr. Vallandingham, and it has been by uo means confined to his political friends. Persons who have differed with him aud animadverted severely upon his course duriug the rebellion, have expressed no lei-'s regret at the terrible calamity which have befallen him than havo his political associates. News concerning his last hours has been devoured with avidity. Newspaper reporters who came from the scene this eveuing ha\e been diligently sought, for uiore detail# than have thus far been published.
It appears that wheu the pistol was discharged Mr. V. was hardly aware of tlio severe nature of the wound, a6 he walked around the room awhile before lying down. Governor MeBurner, alarmed at the sudden appearance of a tradegy, rushed to the adjoining rooms and at once summoned aid. As soon as persons came Mr. Vallandingham said it was a foolish act, and later adverted it as the most foolish act of of his life. Though he seemed to be ronrcious that he was badly hurt, he appeared decidedly hopeful during the early hours.
1
Rev. Mr Haight culled to see' him, and Mr, Vallandingham, taking him by the hand, said substantially that he bad too much faith in the Calvan istio doctrine to believo he would not get through this misfortune. Quce lie told tbe surgeon to take care of the pain, and be would manage the rcfet.
When iiupressed with the approach of dissolution- he was calm, and met the news of his condition bravely.
After Dr. Kectes arrived from Daytou he 600n had the room cleared, aud when no one was present, intimated to Mr. Vallandingham the very serious nature of his wound, The patient seeking for something on which to build hope, reminded the Doctor of two oases of injuries, not fatal, known to both, and asked if his were worso than they, to which the reluctant reply was "Possibly not."
The Dootor then to)d Mr. Vallandingham, who was suffering pain,' that thoy would have to administer medicines of a sedative nature, aud requested that if he had anything to say he had better communicate thepv
He then conversed with the Pofctor concerning private.matters, giving, directions in regard to his business after which medicine tVrelieve the pain was injected by tbe hypodcrmic process. After this there was no time wheu he was not under the influence of opiates that affected somewhat his sensibilities. He, nevertheless, appeared to keep possession of his foeulties.
At half-past three ho seemed to be dying, and hie friends were called to his bed side. From tbet time^re raftidly sank the pulsations at the wrist appeared to have ceased, though he was remarkably calm, so much so tbtt Dr. Drake said be was the coolest man under such circumstances he had ever seen. He still showed occasional signB about the face, of agony. As death approached his face wore an ashy puleobss. His last words were a request for iee, and for' medicines to alley his pain. 1m ilia last moment there wero signs about the face that indicated great physibal euffering.
At eighteen minutes before ten this morning he was dead. There were present In the room when be died hie son Charles, soveoteen yeaw tiM, the only living ohild, with whoa lie bad a touching inter 11'

News of the death of (J. L, Vallandingham has created a profound impression in political circlcs here. All unite in expressions of sorrow at his untimely end, and sympathy lor Mrs. Vallandingham in her double bereavement.
The J£:rjrcss says "Few public meu under the changed circumstances of the times, had a more promising future before them than this distinguished citizen of Ohio. The whole Democracy of the whole country will sympathize with their brethren in what is, indeed, both personally and politically, a sad bereavement." |,. MRS. VAI,LANDIN(!11AM AT CL'MHKR-

CUM HER LAND, June 17.
Mrs. U. L. Vallandingham came here to day to attend the funeral of her dcccascd brother, Hon. John V. T. McMahon, aud upon hearing, this morning, of the accident aud the death of her husband, she became completely distractcd. She is to be taken, txt Dayton to-night. Cincinnati Enquirer.
Another Kemnrkablc Surgical Fen I. A few weeks ago we chronicled the particulars of a frightful accident to little Freddy Gilos, a bright lad of five or six years of age, at the Gait House. '*Freddy was playing upon the stairway in the hotel, and fell a distance of seventy feet, alighting upon a stone 6oorrand was picked up apparently a lifeless, shapeless mass. The lad fell a distance of seventy feet, striking in the fall-tbe projecting corner of staircase, breaking an inch board across the grain, and then further down breaking an oak balustrade one inch in diameter, and finally lauding upon the stone floor.
Nine separate and distinct fractures and a wound upon the head similar to scalp wound of the Indians was produced by this frightful fall. The right arm was crushed into countless pieces above and below the elbow. Both of his legs were broken at and near the ankle joints, and innumerable contusions were received all over the body. Notwithstanding these terrible injuries, which wero regarded almo&t without exception as neeessarinHy fatal, the boy, under the Skillful care of Dr. J. M. Kcllar, assisted by other eminent surgeons, was returned to his friends as perfect iis before the accident, and is to day the pride and joy of a large circle of friends. We place this caso on record as one of the most remarkable iu the annals of sur gery.— Loifisvilte fjedgcr.:^ '.

Of the case was the absence ot Mrs. Vallandinghaui, who had gone tbe same evening to Gumberlaod, Maryland, called there by the death of her brother, Judge McMahon. She was telegraphed to, and will reach Dayton to-morrow morning at ten o'clock.
The sad event cast a genera! gloom over Lebanon. Mr. Vallandingham during tbe trial bad made, numerous friends, and had by his deportment beaten dowi: many prejudices. All were looking forward to his ."pecch in defense of McGehan, which would have been delivered to day. Mr. Vallandingham doubtless had made unusual preparations. He intended his effort to be his great criminal one at the bar. lie appeared to have thoroughly worked up the case. He entered into it with.characteristic energy and enthusiasm, and fell while he was endeavoring to still more satisfactorily explain its mysteries.f RECEIPT OF THE NKW8 IN Nl \V YORK.
