Wbtih^r youMUerc\n the Bible or not. Christianity rests iatha nature of things. It is not antagonistic to on lure.. Carded be he who makes it appear so. God revealed truth by preaching it in life shapes, and men were inspired to teach these troths. If. the Bible wis to be thrown away to morrow, it woaldo't change »he troth a bit. Science don't depend upon books, neither doea the Bible create tTutb. To study man, man must 6tudy nature. We are not to

take our own interpretation, and then obstinately presist in forcing others to ^£4 our peculiar view*. Meb have inter preted the Bible wrong. Science has developed certain great truths, and among the greatest yet evoked is the •~v# aoroallad 9?*gi of mail or the theory •. of D«rwiio. Now, some men cry out, if tbese things be true then the Bible *. isn't true. Let as go farther back 'T aqd take'the Copcnnican system. At ter a wbiie thinking men were obliged j'„ to shift their ground and give a differ ent interpretation to the Bible. Look at the havoc Geology has madt». completely upset the first chapter of

You HaifS got to make your interpretation of Scripturt conformable to nature. Scientific disclosures are the best illuminators that can be given to men, Naturo makes comentaters that stand. Wo may as well prepare ours^lvep to accept thife theory of elimenation—the growth from the animal to tho spiritual, and 1, for one, am already for it. The argument which uffurd9 tho strongest proof of this theory is the essential pliancy and educability of man. lie realizes that his way is upward and onward. To go up higher he must *b*f educated— in other words .must advance, from the 3 nnfniat to the spiritual.' This is just the progress the. ,Biblq teaches us to expect Tho more the Bible is tried by philosophical research, the strou er it is found to be. We can except the deductions of science and be bet tcr Christians. Those who will throw tlio Bible away entirely are very un wise. If a man light Jbis gas, and cundlo, that is as it should be. There nvo folks who blow out the candle be i..... cause they have a theory of gas, and before a pipe has been introduced in"WJ to their homes. When you can find mo a Bible that is more bibler than pf this one, I am already- to accept it.

r.

This has grip in it. It retains its hold upOn man. It comforts, sooths, holds uicu steadfast and so long as it full of the breasts of consolation, why '"should men go elsewhere to nurse?

But I need not wast words on those ^conceited air bags, who, happening to have read in the coriior of a newspaper lately, that somebody has thrown the Biblo overboard, deteriuins to follow in his wake. The Bible is never so true to me as when I nth in trouble.

Suppose wo should take the doctors ono by one and kick them out of town, and then pitch their mcdicine after them? What, would we have left. Nothfogfttmlof tfee srfn^but ineuralgia, and plennsy, an& rhcumatiejn, and fe vers, ohould we De any better off? Hold fast to the Bible. Science has ratified it and will continue to and if it does not, I will be honest enough to admit it, aud be tho first to give it up. But hold on do not casft it4way be wise unto salvation. Ere loug the mists will darken your eyes, the world will die out of your sight. See to it that you are possessed of the spirit, and the understacding also.

Mrs. Chapin the complainant, lives in the towpahip of Milan,, on a small farm 'owned by her husbancf, who is at present and has been for the past four weeks, employed in a fishery at Kel 'ley's, or Put in Bay Island. Shortly after Chnpin left for tho fishery, his wife cmplojed a young man named ?Abner Pattee to work for her in mak"^g soma improvements on the farm.

Patte in the meantime boarded with Mrs. Chapin. Threats had been fiercely made in the neighborhood that the "shebang" would be "cleaned out," but no warlike demonstrations were made until the night of tho-29th of April, when about eleven o*dock at night, the young bloods of Milan to the number of sixteen-assembled at the house of Mrs. Chapin and demanded admission, which" was refused. In one patient the yellowish scalcs have extended to the upper lip and sides of the face covered by hair. Tha vegetable nature of the disease, and the rapidity with which the seeds are transmitted from part to part, until the cryptoganiic plant surrounds every hair follicle, is only too well known for repetition here.

Our chief object in directing public attention to a most serious matter is, that barbers will learn, through us, to be more careful in indiscriminate shaving, and that the public seeking their aid will, for their own sake, insist upon we hope will now become a universal practice in the barber-shop —namely, the razor to be immersed in some warm water before being npplied^to the fafe: This ia pretty sure to destroy ft" vegetable organism, should any exist, on the instrument.

"I consider it one of the most pressing needs of our'days that we should return to the soured practice of constitutional government. The safeguards of our common rights and liberties contained in the Constitution are too sacred and valuable a boon to be permanently jeopardized in providing for a passing emergency. It is time that the American people open their eyes to the dangerous character of. this tendency, and that neither a great name or an object appealing to our sympathies should be permitted to disguise it. As forme, I have seen the working of irresponsible power and personal government in other countries, and I may assure my constituents that while I am a citizen of! this Republic I shall struggle to tho last gasp against its introduction here."
