Mns. SARAH C, wife of J. A. McClure, of this city, departed thin life at her residence on last Tuesday morning. That common dostroyer, consumption, was the cause. Her age was 1M years and -2 days. She leaves a large number of friends and acquaintances to mourn her loss.
TUB follow who rcfuicd to yield his seat to some ladies, at tho High School Exhibition lastThursday night, after being politely requested to de so by Special Policeman Ross, should in future be excluded from these and other decent public assemblies.
N'KW BOAT.—Cnpt*. J. B. SimpsOh and Jas. II. Watson launched their new boat, the "Jcnnicpee," last Monday, for a trial trip on Hock River. This vessel was built expressly for tho Kankakee fishing trade, and is perfoct little beauty. She is what K(i« called "doublc-ender," that is, she will propel backward or forward withont turning round. The launching and christening took placc at the same time, in the presence of a large number of members of the Crawfordsville Hunting nnd Fishing Club. Succe§« to the ••Jcnnicpee.'' Long may she iloat and may «hn never disappoint (hose who put their trust in her, as did her name-

"WOODMAN spare that tree! Touch not a single bough. In youth it sheltered me,
And I'll protect, it now
Quite a commotion was created in the First Ward last Thursday, by an attempt to removo the beautiful old elm tree which stands in the centre of Pike street near its western terminus. Certain propertvdioldors had employed a negro to cut away the tree, but the ladies in tha vicinity raised such a bulling in his ears tint the African was glnd to leave it alone. In our opinion, the Comi.ion Council should protect that venerable tree. It is highly ornamental, and certainly its preservation could injure no one. For one, wo aro very glad, that the ladies shv.rcd such pluck and determination: for without their interference, this work of vandalism would have received no oheck. We advise them to keep a supply of hot water, for the uext fellow who makes a similar Attempt.
BCRT & RIDQKWAY'S GREAT CARNIVAL or NOVELTIES.—At the earnest solicitation of our leading citizens, this splendid entertainment will visit our city, opening on Monday evening, April 10th, at Eltxroth Hall. The exhibition comprises the worldrenowned Illusionist and Ventriloquist, DK CAI X, THE MAN WITH THE TALKIXG HAND, also the beautiful and accomplished vocalist, Mi»s Nellie Anderson, and also Mr. Warren Phillips, the serio-comic ballad singer. The management will give away one hundred useful and valuable presents each evening. The press of other cities speak very highly of this troupe, and no doubt they will furnish first-elaas entertainments.

PROF. B. Those who do not believe that gentlemen, wide awake, can be made deaf, blind, and dumb, to forget their names, see and converse with departed friends, become drunk on cold water, besides five htindred more things equally wonderful, should ffot fail to attend and see these apparent miracles. Hale, proprietor of Dispensary and Surgcr^, Indianapolis, Indiana, and author of the new system of cure for Catarrh,Throat Diseases, Asthma, Bronchitis and Consumption, to which branch of the profession his practice is exclusively confined, may be consulted daily, personally, or by letter, at his permanent office Miller's block. Indiaiiapolis. Also, at the earnest solicitation of many old pntients, the Doctor will still continue to visit Craw fordsville once each month—the second Thursday—for one day only. During the winter, owing partly to our more in-door and sedentnry habits, and partly to the increase of insensible perspiration from the cuticular pores and other climatic causes, our secretions become irritated, blood impure, liver congested, skin yellow and flabby, and when spring comes we find it almost impossible to fulfil our ordinary duties of life. And with our vital energies at this low ebb we arc ready to contract any of the "ills that flesh is heir to'"—cclds, asthma, consumption, rheumatism, ague, fever, scrofula, jaundice, pneumonia, spring-fever, pimples boils &c. &c. A few bottles of Dr. Hurley's Cnm. Syrup of Sarsaparilla with Iodide of Potash taken in the spring will obliterate more of these diseases in their incipiencv than all the Doctors can cure if neglected. Try it and your gratitude shall be our reward. See advertisement in another column." aprltf
Loud and deep are the complaints which have long heen uttered by many citizens because of the almost utter impossibility of having their watches properly handled. Often have we heard the remark "I would as soon throw my watch away at once as have it repaired by one of the "tinkers" of this town."
We are glad to announce to our citizens the fact that there is no longer any reason for such complaints as this, in proof whereof we quote the following, taken t'rom a book entitled ''The History of Indianapolis." Speaking of the great jewelry house formerly owned by Messrs. W. II, Talbott & Co., says The business of the house rapidly increased until 1855, when the firm first introduced into their house the present proprietor, Mr. Geo. M. Jenison, as an apprentice. After seven years of close attention to business the sterling qualifications of Mr. Jenison were observed and he was made an equal partner in 1861. the business of the house had fcy this time reached its zenith, controlling the bon ton trade of the city, which is due to the efficient management of Mr. Jenison, as that duty had previous to his being made a partner, devolved 'upon him.''
The Geo. M. Jenison alluded to in the above extract is now locnted permanently in this city, and he proposes at an early day to open a first-class jewelry and silver ware establishment. His long experience in the business, and his thorough practical knowledge of all pertaining thereto, and withal, his well known reputation aa a firstrate worker in jewelry, will make his location here of great benefit to our timekeeping citizens. For the present Mr. J. •an be found at the drug store of T. W. Pry & Co., where he is temporarily located.
