Rfrt's SOMERUV & Co's troupe havo met with fine success in our city during the week. Their entertainments at Eltzroth Hall have been largely attended, and many of our citizens ltnve drawn valuable prizes. Their exhibition and prize drawing to-night will be a grand affair, and will doubtless draw a multitude of our people.

Oi"R peaceful village was again raided on last Saturday night by those three notorious war chiefs, Big Medieine, Little I.ynx and Ground Hog. They have complained of their annuities not being paid for some time back, which was, no doubt, the occasion of their leaving their reservation. Their appearance in tawn caused rnnch surprise and alarm, aivl notwithstanding they were liberally supplied with all back annuities, and the Council voted them the freedom of the city, they e'ommenced the work of scalping at an early hour. The fight waxed Uot and ftrioua. BigMediaine was struck on the sconce with a shell in tke shape of a big stone jug, and soon lay helpless. Little Lynx received terrible punishment, and like Big Medicine soon begged for quarter. Ground Hog, seeing the day gone, withdrew in good order, carrying off the wounded and threatening to return again next spring and renew the fight.

Daatk of lira. Thomaa.

Love for our departed friend, leads us to bring a simple tribute of affection to lay upon the grave of.MATTIE Btaro*D THOMAS, who left this life the night of January 20th, 1871, having for 31 years "loved this green earth," and none the less that she believed and trusted in God. Her presence brightened the home of one of the best of fathers, and in tiie endearing relations ef wife and mother she was ever loving, gentle, .Under,

Irne. Those who knew her best loved her most. Tbej saw and felt the daily beauty of her blameless life. To society anil the world fhe was always generous and kind.

Many years ago she united with the

Presbyterian church of this place, and has

been always faithful to the TOWS and obli-

with fever and tortured with acute pain. she turned on her pillow and said to nje, I am so tired, so tired." Bat her trust was in the Saviour, and she knew He would be with her in her hour of extreme agony, when friends could no longer follow to snitain her. He was present to lead her through the dark valley arid shadow of Death." A few hours later s'le found her long needed rest. J„/ Que '•God's finger touched her and'she slept."

RufuajSamerby's Peculiar Estertaln* inonts. Kltzroth Hall has been nightly crowded during the past wei by our citizens, and all have express, themselves delirhtoi, not only with the rare excellence of the entertainment, but. with the impartial manner in which the gifts hare been distributed.

Mr. Somerby distribute^ with a lavish hand, and his presents have all been costly and useful articles gold-band china tea sets, silver lea sets, barrels of flour, and a hunting case watch, have been the leading articles, wlille rocking cTiairs, toilet tabl&s sacks of flour, lamps, and various articles of glass and silver ware, have been given out in plentiful profusion. This afternoon at the Matinee every child will receive a present, and this evening a complete let of chamber furniture will be the leading present. We advise one and all to go and be delighted.
