A NUMDcn of the excursionists from our city have not yet recovered from the effects

TEDDY Bno^.v says that an Illinois Brass )i Band playing the Marseillaise hymn and ft bountiful meal on Peoria scolloped oysters, will create a revolution in the best regulated bowels in five minutes. foxag
STATE
FAM.—Those of our citizens who
contemplate visiting Indianapolis during the State Fair, should not fail to give the Palmer House a call while in the city. For I a good meal or a good bed it has no equal in the State. It is first class lmu«e in nil
it* deportments.
EVERY littlo town along the line of the I„ B. & W. Railroad in' Illinois, is afllicted with a Brass Band, who poured with unceasing vigor, tlieir horrid sounds into the ears of tho excursionists from this city on the 13th. On the next excursion by Tray of defense, we suggest that our citizens take with them a dozen common
fiddlers.
•THK entertainment iven by the young ladies and gentlemen of Good Templars Lodge, Thursday and Friday night at McClelland Hall, was a splendid affair. J. Q. A. Buck, as Edward Middleton can be beat. All the characters in Ibis great moral drama were well represented. By request of many citizens the play will be repeated tonight, and those wishing to attend will never regret the priqe of admission, Jwenty five cents.
•Amono the mfcny toasts offered a! t!rgrand banquet given by the citizens of Bloomington to the excursionists who left our city on the 1:5th, was the following: "The Iron Horse—the equalizer of wealth and the civilizer of Nations." Responded to by Mr. Pitlerson of this city, and of whom the Bloomington

•'Mr. Patterson is a young man, and if ho has never'been struck, wo can bear testiniony (hat lie hit something every time he opened his mouth.'J
The PantQ$rif\ of the same city also comments in the following style "Wc have not often heard so appiopriate and eloquent an after-dinner speech as this one of Mr. Patterson. It was eloquent and. elegant, impressive and attractive."
excursion over the lndianpaolisi
Bloomington & Western Railroad, of which we made brief mention in our issue of last
week, was an event that will ever be memor able in the history of our city. The entiro line traverses an agricultural country, the finest the sun ever shone upon, and as a highway for travel and traffic between the two oceans bordering on the continent, furnishes a central route, shorter by two
ht hundred miles that any other line of railway. With such advantages it is no idle
ipeoulation or dream to sco the mighty influence that will work out and develope the Inexhaustible and boundless wealth that that ht-rotoTore has remained isolaced and
'hidden. Among those who have assisted in the accomplishment of this grand work,
noae are more deserving of praise than the Hon. Samuel C. WilUou, of our own city, under whose master hand and untircJng brain this great railway has at length been icompleted.
On Monday the third of October tho road will be "open for business. In point of equipment it will rank among the firstclass roads of the country. The road-bed is substantial, and placed in the best of order throughout the entire line, and the traveler who selects this route for his passage westward will not only shorten his journey many nilcs but will enjoy all the modern comforis and luxuries of railway
