And the gray BO cold ran over the gold. And she sighed, with onlv the winds tn h«ar her— "He loves me still! and rowed with a will, But. pitilcns Fate, not lie. was steerer.
,And there till the morn blushed over the corn And over the bees in their sweet eombs humming, Her locks with the dew drenehed through and through, She watched and waited her t'nl?e love's' coming.
But tin maid of to-day Who reads niv lay May keep her youngheart light as a feather It was only 3 dream, the bridge and the strenm, And the lady and lover, and all together.
The Radical Record. "r**
At last, after much hearty bickering, the Republican party of the Seventh District lnive constructed their political platform and placed their candiupon it *Tt is con?trunted in a most npecioiiR manner, in order to ontch votes, but the complications were t'ound to he too great, and the ear marks of Radicalism are still nirial. prominent.
This convention, as well as all oth t-rs the Republican party has held this year, endorses Congress and the administration in plain terrn^, and then strive to squirm out of the responsibility of such endorsement places upon them, by resolutions condemning the
action
of both. For instauco, yester
day they gave us the folllowing: "Jieaolve/i, That the spirit of monopoly should be strongly resisted in every attempt It. may innke to appropriate the common property of to people, ard we denounce all projects having in view the wholesale donation of tlio national domain to private corporations, whether for railroad purposes or other monopolies. We hold tlio public land to be the inherltagc of the people and designed to furnish cheap homesteads fo the poor of not only this but future generations. And in our opinion no land grants whatever should be made without ample provision that the lands granted should be always open for settlement and purchase on as favorable terms as the lands remaining the property of the government."
And yet the Radical Congress, whose actios in regard to the public lands are thus condemned by the Republican Convention of the Seventh District, have votedaway millions upon millions of the public lands, completely subject to the grasping avarice of these poulloss corporations: and this very convention says: "Retched," That we reaffirm and endorse the platform of principles adopted by the Republican Slate Convention, held at Indianapolis, February 22, 1870.
That platform, passed by the Republican State Convention, says: "That we approve the genearl course of our Senators and Republican Representatives in Congress, and express our full and entire confidence that tiny will act with wisdom and integrity in all that concerns the welfare of the people.'
Now, it is patent from the resolutions passed at tho Convention of the Seventh District yesterday, that "our Senators and Republican Representatives in Congress'" have not "the full and entire confidence" of the Republicans of the Seventh District, for they condemn one t)f the most important measures that Congress has passed, because it was evidently for the whnle•ile robbery of the people.
Yesterday's convention is merely striving to throw dust in the eyes of tie people by their resolutions, which 3ro in direct opposition to the express and persistent aotion of the Republican Congress. Congress has swindled the people out of property by the millions of acrcs, and the Republican Convention of the Seventh District is striving to give that Congress the opportunity to repeat their crimes. In our opinion the people of the Seventh District will refuse to do that thinj

The Amiable Tnrcos.
The seijpation of the day is the arrival of a regiment of Turcos, a body of troops raised among the warlike native tribes of the mountauiou? regions of Algeria. I wish to speak of this oorps in terms of the highest admiration, for there is nothing to equal them in the world. The famous New York regiment, commanded by Colonel •'Billy'' Wileon, was considered "some" in the way of deviltry, and the "Garibaldians," of the Uniou army, were not far behind them when once "they got to work^ in Virginia. But for sheer, downright ruthlessness and unmitigated blackguardism, commend me to tbe Tarcos~the rowdiest of the Zouave regiment* being quiet, Christian gentlemen in comparison with them.
