A FELLOW by the name of Brown, said to reside somewhere in Fountain county, received the Radical nomination, for Judge of the Circuit Court in ibis Judicial District on last Wednesday. Judge Cowan, the present, incumbent was badly defeated, receiving only the support of his own county.

HE Montgomery base ball club, of this city, challenged the Alert club of Bainbriclgc for a "match game." The game was played at Bainbridge Thursday, resulting in an overwhelming defeat of th* Montgom-

St. Charles Academy, under the direction of tho Sisters of the Holy Cross, reopens on Monday, August 20. 1870. No pains have been spared to secure competent teachers for each department. A Sister of very remarkable nnd highly cultivated talent presides over the tn'usical department. In the yaung ladies room all the higher brandies of a useful and ornamental education will be thooughly taught. The system of government is mild but firm and uniform, while every encouragement and every laudable incentive is employed to forward the pupils in knowledge and virtue the morals nnd general deportment of the childrcn are constantly watched over. The Sisters of the Holy Cross, although professing the Catholic faith, will at all times respect the religious belief of tlicir pupils, no 'discussion upon teligion or politics being ever permitted. To contribute to the exact observance of lules, ai well as polite anil, amiable deportment toward teachers and companions, a Gold Cross of Honor is awarded in the Senior circles and a Crown in the

Junior circles. No attention whatever should be paid to reports injurious to the school. Tho friends Aod patrons of tho Academy will be most kindly received at *11 hours from 7 o'clock A. M, till 8 o'clock P. M.

Mr. Shannon waa born June i!0. 170-3, in-j: York county, Pa. His father emigrated to Woodford county Ky., in 1708, where the above named lived single, until 1819, in which year he was married, and in 1835 emigrated to Montgomery county Indiana,! arriving on the 1st of October. Was county surveyor for some eighteen or twenty I years was a member of the Constitutional Convention of IS-H) a life-long Democrat and lived and died in the belief of univcrsal salvation, having repeatedly stated to those around his death-bed, that he was perfectly satisfied in the belief of Uuiversalism. His family consisted of nine childrcd, six boys anil three girls.
