THE METEORIC ROCK.—While to-day everybody will ho looking at the Sea Cow nnd Cardiff Giant, we trust our savants and citizens generally will not fail to see the meteoric rock, that fell on last Wednesday night. Teddy Brown tvill take pleasure in exhibiting it.
IT is reported that one of the young salesmen of this city while bn thing in the "creek just north of town" a few days since, found on his pedal extremities a pair of socks which he had given up us lost several months sincc. Queer, what virtue there is in the waters of that creek.
TIIE Crawfordsville Manufacturers Union hn« adopted ti circular which it is proposed to print an one side of a letter sheet, leaving the other side for business correspondence. The oircul&r is designed to set out the advantages of Crawfordsvilleas a manufacturing point. The \se oi' these cireulars in their correspondence by our business men will be a fine advcitisemont of our advantages, and nil who have such correspondence should be supplied with them.
THE METROPOLITAN CIRCUS.—Hull's Metropolitan Circus will exhibit in our city on next Saturday, the Oth. The fuel that this circus is owned and managed by citizens of our own county, will, undoubtedly, excite the curiosity of everybody to witness the splendid performance of its matchless and daring riders. Acrobats and voltigeurs. Wherever they have appeared they have met with unbounded applause, and received the highest encomiums froni the press. At thoir former visit here, last April, thousands of our peoplo were debarred the plensuer, owing to the inclemency of the weather. from attending their grand exhibitions, hut we trust that on next Saturday, no obstacle will present itself, and that everybody will have an opportunity to patronize a show organized and owned by our own citizens.
ON Wednesday evening last, mauy of our citizens were startled hy a loud report, which seemed to be that of a cannon, and many were the inquires as to its origin. Many others of our citizens witnessed a magnificent meteoric display at about the same time, vis.: 1(U r. m. At about thnt time an immense meteor passed athwart the the heavens, carrying in its rear a train of fire apparently about one hundred feet in length. The meteor, or meteorite or aerolite, or whatever it may have been, exploded with a tremendous report within a mile of the city. It is stated, by one who was near the scene of the explosion, that the fragments of stoue fall like hail around him. One large one which fell in a small stream, is said to have made the water fairly boil. A specimen of a fragment of this great meteoric stone is now on exhibition at the drug store of Mr. T. D. Brown. It is said by thofce who have examined it to be mostly oomposed of iron. We have noticed th« appearance of meteors in various localities in the State at about the same time. It must hare been hugely immense to send its fragments in so many different directions.

Other and more important mutter* harp

recently, hating heard of the
tension and widen,ng of several streeU of
the city, he went out to ta a miryej
thusly: Within a year a great number of dwellings have been erected on the western borderof the city, near the west ends of Vernon, or Main, Pike and Market streets. These dwellings, chiefly occupied by mechanics and artisans, upon the encourage ment
our citv so ereat.lv depends, have by an or-
Now, with all due deference to the wisdom and policy (in the true sense of the term1! of our city fathers, Tramp begs leave to aak them a few, as he think4, pertinent questions.
First, Is it just, or is it right, or are you doing your duty toward the inhabitants of the city, as now bounded, by annexing so large a body of lands lying contiguous: subjecting the inhabitants thereof to payment of taxes at the same rate required of those who reside in the heart of the incorporation, and still refusing to confer upon these inhabitants the benefits and privleges enjoyed by those living nearer the center?
Stcond, Will it. be treating those persons who have built residences in the western part of the city, in McClelland's, Mills', and HoiiAtons' additions, who have lately been "brought in,'' to refuse the extension of Market, Vernon and Tike streets? In other words, will you continue to compel thern, while they contribute their proportion towards the support, of the city jrovernnient, to travel from three-fourths of a mile to a mile nu: of a direct route to reach their homes
Third, Will not the inquiry last propounded apply also to those who have built residences in the Southeastern quarter, and who now are entirely shut out from northern communication, east of Water street?
Fourth, Considering the rapidly increasing growth of the city, and the consequent constant rise in the value of real estate, will it not. be cheaper, will it not be an economical measure, the wisdom of which none can .dispute, to open these streets at once, ond-so save a large per cent, of the damages to be assessed by reason of the extension
Fifth, Is it not necessary to the. beauty and symmetry of the city that the streets so extended shall be uniform in direction, width, and, as nearly as possible, uniform in grade with the other streets?
Kroni various parties and also from an order made bv the Council at its last meeting. Tramp has learned that it proposed to open a street, avenue, diagonal or something of thot. sort, from the intersection of Vernon street with the L. N. A. & C. Railway, along the southern border of the railway to the junction of that road with the I., 11. & W.
This project would certainly, if carried oui. be attended with enormous expense, even though no damages were claimed by the property holder?. Aside from that consideration, how, and in what way would it benefit any one? For what, conceivrhle purpose do we want this "avenue A n\ i-
agree with us that its utility, not even considering the damage it will do. is exceedingly doubtful.
Should a Union passenger depot he built by the present and projected roads at that. junction, then the "avenue" might be of some small importance, and not very much either, when we know that it is proposed to open Plum street, which runs North and South from the wet end of the I. 15. & W. R. R. Depot, to College street.) entirely through from the Danville road north to Vernon or Market streets. This last, with "the similar opening bf Kim street, next west of Plum, and the extension of Jefferson street to the city line east, will give to the citizens of the Northeastern and Northwestern quarters all desired outlets and these openings are absolutely necessary.
Should a Union Depot ever be built at th junction, it is possible, though not pv ble, that then, the proposed "avenue" will bo necessary.
The correct course to be pursued hy the Council, and the one which will meet with the approval of a great majority of the people, will be to have all these north and south, east and wesf streets opened at once I to have them made of uniform width, and at equal distances apart.
Tramp would refer those who ntay be inquisitive in regard to these matters, and many are interested, to the acta of the special session of the General Assembly, passed in 1860, pages 83, 34, 3o, 30, and 37, by reference to which a clear understanding of the powers and duties of Common Councils in these matters may be obtained.
Vours. TRAMP.

view of the taxes paid by those who have. noUru volsnt. been "moved into the corporation.'" nd in view also of the fact that our city is steadily growing, widening and increasing in wealth and population, this question ought to be considered as one of
great importance by our board of Councilmen. Tramp looked at the matter ftbont

brought into the corporate limits of Cra fordsville, and subjected to the payment of city taxes. This may be said, als#. of the territory in the Southeastern portion of the city, toward the junction of the I., B. & W. and the L. X. \. & C. Railways, and in all probability the sume will shortly he «aid in regard to the Northeastern annexed territory, inasmuch as, according to present indications, the Northeast and Southwest Railway will soon be built from Rookville through that territory to Logansport. Besides these, large bodies of land, belonging to individuals, have .by the recent ordinance been annexed .and subjected to city taxation.

Experience.
By this we mean a close application in selling, putting up and operating machinery for seventeen years in succession, besides having attended nine State Fairs, three United State Fairs and also the great Mechanics' Institute of Philadelphia, San Francisco and Cincinnati. During all this time Gregg has followed and studied closely all inventions and improvements in the various classes of machinery and farm implements. This is what, we call experience. We would Bay to the farmers of Montgomery and surrounding couuties they can find at Gregg's Hardware Store the latest improved and most practical Reapers and Mowers, Threshing Machines, Horse Hay Rakes, Horse Pitch Forks, the celebrateb Fulgem Grain Drill, Plows of all kinds, and in fact the farmer can find at Gregg's Mammoth every machine or implement he may need on the farm, and as good a stock of Hardware as is kept in the West. Now what we claim is, that with our experience we can furnish a better machine than is produced at. any other establishment. Remember our motto, Good goods and good bargains, at Gregg's Mammoth Hardware Store. ni!iv23tt'

[I is purely vegetable, and the most, happy eomhinntion that the science of medicine ha as yet developed to successfully combat, the most pre valent diseases incident, to a bilious or malarious climate. It is the most perfect anti-peri-odic—always Breaking the Chill in three or four doses but better than that or all else: and what renders it the most efficient and valuable compound extant, is the universally conccded fact that, it leaves the patient in hotter health than before the attack, with no puffing up of the skin, no buzzing in the head, no deafness or impaired vision, but a clear head, transparent skin, a bright eya, and elastic step and bnoyant health.
It eliminates disease from the system by dissipating engorgements of the secretions, exciting the liver to healthy action and giving the pancreatic and hepetic juices their normal condition and healthy flow.
It is better preventive than cure, and if people could he prevailed upon to take it, in. say half doses three times a day, during the chilly season, they would have perfect immnnity from chills and all the concomitnnt diseases but, who except the very prudent, will take medicine before they are sick.
