excuse for not
knowing more about foreign relations is, that it takes up so much of his time to attend to his home relations.
Another Straw.
Still another political straw lias been thrown up, and again the indications are in favor of a strong current from the Democratic quarter. This time it was away out in Idaho, and here is the way it is spoken of by a Republican journal—the Elko Independent "Idaho Itns gone Democratic, electing Sam Merrill delegate to Congress by a majority of from 800 to 900. Every county in the Territory henrd from gives Democratic majorities on the general ticket with the exception of tho Mormon county of Oneida, where thcr* is said to be a tie vote. All the county officers with a few .seatterinp exceptions, nre Democrats."
Republicans arc trembling in
their boots fearful of the result of the fall elections, which they are beginning to look forward to as the fall of their- party, and are now urging unanimity and harmony in their ranks in order to prevent too groat a downfall. The negroes are urged by them to Htand true to their colors and not desert them in the hour of their need, sua to remember that it was by the efforts of the Republicans that they were made voters, and will be made, provided they remain true to the principles of the Republican party, participants in all the glorious privileges enjoyed by the whites. They must however remain true or all will he lost, say the Republicans. The great, moral, intellectual and progressire. party must be kept in power at any .sacrifice. The blood and treasure of the war is fully compensated for—the negro is made a voter! The sacrifice of life is nothing compared to this inestimable privilege! It matters not I liiiusfclf wholly how many left their homes never to return to them again, it matters not what the cost has beeu, what the evil has been, it is all compensated for in the piou9 results that the Radical party have brought about Farmers can gather in their harvests, however much or little it may be, the bondholder nr.s come in for a share of it, the si inding army must come

John Lee, was elected its President, and from that hour to this, Mr. Lee has devoted to the work before
him. aud has managed it with such skill and ability as to iusure success. Work has commenced along the line of the middle division of the road, contracts for all the ties and timber from this point to Frankfort are let, aud the work on the grading at this point is beiug pushed with all possible speed by .Messrs. Beck, Scott & Snyder, who have perhaps the heaviest contract on the road. Ties are being
