quiet of the Second Ward near the National Bank was somewhat disturbed at an early hour on last Tuesday morning, by a rencontro between a couple of Fifteenth Amendments, known by the names of Zack Williams and Harvey Smith. In the light, Smith's body was perforated by a ball tired from a pistol in the bands of Williams, the ball passed through both luncts a:td the heart, causing death in a minute. Williams was admitted to bnil.

Atter driving at two-forty speed about town for several hours, (iiutil the poor hone was almost ready to drop.) he started for the aountry on a gallop. He was overtaken, however, several miles from the city, by the proprietor of the horse and buggy, and compelled to get out aad lead the horse into town. .Such cruelty to animals should be put a stop to.

THE
entertainment given on lasf. Thursday evening by the representatives of the Lyceum Society of Wabash College, assisted by some of the members of the Ladies' Reading Association of this city, was tolerably well attended. In ro'gard to the rendition of the "Golden Legend," we can only say that it was an utter and absolute failure, and this, chiefly on account of the lack of preparation and miserable stupidity of "Prince Henry."
The other performers in this piece, especially "Fairy"' Hough, enaoted their parts with credit to themselves and to the pleasure of the audience. But should the troupe see fit to inflict this piece on the public a second time, we worjld respectfully suggest that they engage another "prince."
A

The comedy entitled "Change of Base," was well played. Miss Krout as Miss Prim was indescribably funny, while as a young lady of romantic ideas, Miss Sallie Pry, in her dilemma, created much amusement.
Capt. Dashwood used a "leetle .mite" too much voice for a wounded lover, but otherwise did very well, as also did Mr. Lsddie Vance, as Tarbox.
Tho music by the Olios, led by Mr. Henry Campbell, was excellent. The Olios have improved greatly in the last six months, and have received a valuable addition to their number in the person of Mr. Goldsberry. who. ss flutUt ii on eminent suncess.
We understand that the troupe proposes to give another entertainment this evening, the admission fee fo which will 1p nventyfive cents.

(SmiiiiK & Duo. are keoping at their market, at all hours of the day, the very best quality of fresh meats, together with sugar-cured hams, plain hams, breafast bacon, dried beef, and all other articles to be had at a meat-market. Their patent frigerator is a perfect success, keeping meat in it as cool and perfect ns it can be kept in the winter season. I
Th« Maaon House at Indlaaapolin This hotel, the old "Oriental," on Illinois street, about half way bofween the Union Depot and the Palmor House, is now open to the traveling public. The house has undergone a thorough renovation, not only in it® internal structure, both with paint ind wall paper, but most elegantly fitted up with entirely new furniture from garret to cellar. The House hns been n?ed for a

who have attained to
the greatest eminence in the science of Medicine, and who have by a life-long study of, and experience with, the human organs, obtained great insight into the, origin and athology of diseases, are yet. notwithstanding till their profound and learned theories, confessedly grouping in the dark as to the firttcaun of any and all diseases that effect our race. But this much has been clearly elucidated, and is become an axiom with tiie learned profession, that by far the greatest number of our ailments are directly tracable to derangement of the digestive functions, and if "good digestion wait on appetite,'' health will be the almost uniform result. Acting upon jlhis axiom, the' inventor of Dr. Hurley's Celebrated Stomach Bitters has been eminently successful (judging from the many testimonials that are con-! star.tly pouring in upon him through the mi (I mails and press), in preparing a remedy to meet and "nip in the bud" all this long list of obscure and distressing derangements that ronder "life scarce worth the' living."' We are glad to learn that the public here are beginning to appreciate these Bitters upon their intrinsic merits, and that they can be had everywhere.
