A Sight With the Dead—Experience of a German Who was Supposed to have Departed this lire, and was Placed In the Dead-House—An Exciting Scene.

From the Sin Francisco Alta. April 10 The terrors of the grave, the fear of death, and the terrible calamity of being buried alive, have ell .been forcibly pictured more than once but any picture, however clearly drawn, must fail to le?ive the impression produced of either that is obtained by experience and in no case can any one be so alive to these terrors and fears as (he one who being considered dead, i« treated as such. For some time past a Germai:, known by the name of Frederick, worked in a dining saloon on First street us waiter. His constitution was weak, and the confinement necessarily attending his employment effected him very much. He consulted some physicians, who pronounced him consumptive, and advised him to give up his employment put himself under the care of a phy«u»San, or [(I lio hospihi) Mo Jvcided on adopting the latter course, aud some .short time ago went to one of our hospitals, llis condition rather grew worse daily, and lately he was confined to bed. and little hopes entertained for his recovery. About a week ago he grew sJill worse. He was visited in the morning by the physician, who considered his ease hopeless. During the day he grew still weaker, and when the doctor paid his evening visit he found him pulseless, and pronounced lite extinct. The body was immediately remuved and placed in the dead-house attached to the hospital. It was deposited in a ease where two other bodies hud already been placed, and between them. The cover was put on, and the keeper of the dead-iiouse retired for the night. About midnight a loud screaming aud yelliug of the most, unearthly character was heard in the dead-house. The watchers heard it, the patients heard it, and the party who have charge of this portion of the building heard it also. A silent sense of fear, of terror the most terrifying, stole over them all, and they concluded that a scene was being acted similar to that wit nessed by Tarn O'Shanter, at Kerkalloway, where he saw "warlooks and witches in a dance." The keeper of the dead-house was sought after, but

Revels who has been tho subject of j"

such high wrought eulogy from Governor Morton and Henry Ward Beeuher, is said on the authority of a prominent citizen, formerly of Fayettvillc. North Carolina, to have been an old resident of tint town, and the sou of a barber, in which art he is also a proficient. This gentleman stated on his own personal knowledge, that Revels, while living there, was charged with the crime of burglery, which by the law of North Carolina, was punishable with death. This being viewed as too severe a penalty, his escape was winked at so to get rid of him without a resort to the gallows Such is the account given of the Senator's antecedents by one who was a leading citizen of Fayettville for many years.
