Radical Taxation.
Any one looking from a distance upou tho doings of the present Radical Congress, could but conclude that it was placed in power expressly to grasp what little the war and the thieves had left the people, in order to appropriate to their own use.
Bank directors, railroad president*, cotton lords and iron duke.-, are the uiajority of that body, and coti.-e-ijuently it" legislation i-: mainly directed to the passage of such laws as will teud directly to their own benefit, regardless of thc deleterious effects upon the business interests of the body of the people.
The leading Radical newspapers*iir1§ beginning to see themselves. They are disgusted with it. They revolt at its enormity, and are beginning to de't nounce the rascals they have assisted 1 to place in power, in no measured t«rms. Among thein the Chicago
Tribitnr,

yesterday, it said "We have t'onpres.-, who are tuh :se,l liv ulfieinl figure! that, despite llio exlraordfnary expenditures, tliere will In- .1 sitvjilus revenue of 612.".,000,000 for (he y.vir, und vet tliey reject all propositions to roduce taxation. Thc Senate has just voted to renew the income tux and instead of reducing the tiixes upon thc common necessaries of life, the House is now considering a hill to increase them in various ways. We have a corps of revenue officers at Washington who, instead of Administering the law fairly and equitably, devote all their ability to thc discovery of new and ingenious modes of hunting down the tax-paver«, to extort rxtrn shillings and additional pennies nnder technicalities which* would disgrace a I'olice Court pettifogger reiving upon the tact that ninety-nine men out of every hundred would rather pay an unjust !ax than it and ft lawsuit with the government. And now, to clap the climax, it is proposed to pass a bill to contract the currency to the amount of $.'!(0,000,000 in one year, and bankrupt everybody who has not been a bankrupted by paying taxes, tinder the pretense of reducing thc interest 011 a small portion (less than one-eighth) of the national debt—a scheme, the very shadow of hieli has paralyzed every department of trade and industry in the United states.
The American people arc on the rack. The appliances of torture avo in skillful and experienced hands, and so long as there is any blood left in them, our rulers will apparently never relax. It is, perhaps, sometimes well not to lie aware of what is in store for us. We know that the inhabitants of Chicago can pay from ten to twenty millions of taxes annually, and it is plain that so long as they submit to the taxation the demand will not he diminished."
Our readers will remember that the abovo is from thc leading Radical pa per of the northwest. It is a confession of sin and shame from the chief of Radical apologists for other Radical crimes.

compnnioiis have been working with a Court of Common Pleas, May tenn,*ivim. About .*! o'clock SaturJa)* after-
noon Jones and a fellow miner stepped into a tub for the purpose of being lowered down the shaft they got in I the tub iu the ustlal manner each having its right leg hanging omide to guide its descent. At the moment they stepped in, the tub suddenly fell a short distance, owing to to the whim being ungeared, then "brought up," but the men thinking that the brake had given way, attempted to get out of the tub before it passed below the mouth of the shaft. One of them sueceded iu springing out of the tub upon thc ground, but in his attempt Jones lost his balance and fell headlong into the shaft. The shaft is only four feet in diameter, and extending through solid granite, presenting rough and jagged sides front top to bottom. At the bottom of this uncouth pit there were several picks and a ladder, it is believed that Jones must have clutched and canght the ladder, which "broke his fall'' and preserved his limbs and saved his life. Almost at the moment of his full, two men got into the bucket and were sent rapidlj down the shaft, where, to their inteuse surprise, they saw Jones alive on his feet, sensible and able to talk. He was hoisted to the surface and carried home, where Dr. 'Nyixom speedily attended him. Au examination showed that not a bone was broken or dislocated. There was a slight cut in the scalp, one of his shoulders severely bruised, the skin torn from both hands, and over his body there were as many as sixty to seventy slight laeeratious. This* was the sum of his external injuries. Darin* Sat
