TIM Crawfordsville and Yountsville Sil-ver-Bands have united, and now form one band numbering twenty-one members, tinder the leadership of Prof. Swilxer. On laat Saturday night they met at. the Court House for practice, and we sny it in no spirit of flattery, that grander or more magnificent music wc never heard. In our opinion it i9 now the finest band in the West.

IIK AMESTOWN S HOOTING Arrn.w.—From conversation with a number of the best eitixens in the neighborhood of Jamestown, we are convinced that most of the statemedts in relation to this matter going the rounds of the press are gross eirors. We know of no law which compels us, because a women is connected with a difficulty, to denounce the man on the opposite side, and proclaim that he alone is in fault. That Mr. Hudson is blimable to some extent, we admit, but at the same time we must confess that the character of Miss Berry is not beyond reproach and is a subject of considerable dispute, while from the proximity of Captain Berry's family when the shooting was done, and the living rampart they made of the captain's body after he fired the first shot, convinces us thnt lie presumed upon Hudson's humanity, and his respect for noa-cbrabatants, to preserve him while bo ahot1 from behind his. bulwark9 nt his intended victim.

As public journalists, wo do nit desire to do'either party injustice, and the above is written because a more general knowledge of the fiiett demands it at our litnds. Law suits that are on the tapis will show whether or not we are correct.

Lstouport,! Crawfordivills, ft S. W. Railroad.

The chief praise is however due to Mr. John Lee, President of the road, who with an energy untiring, and in spite of opposition of enemies of the work, and the advice of its friends, has pushed it forward 10 final success.

The result in Tarkc was thought to be so doubtful that many of the friends of the road considered the prosecution of the surrey ordered a few weeks ago to be unwise, and strongly advised its suspension. Mr. Lee, however, with an euergy of determination which knows no defeat insisted on its eompletton. He spent two weeks of earnest labor in canvassing Parke prior to the election, in stirring up the indolent and Msuming the obligation of the efforts of the work. -Tie presence of'the corps of engineers in Parke assisted very much in enlisting the active aid of thi^people, and Mauling a majority for the enterprise.

The Itiryey is now completed on the whole line, and the profile will be finished In a few days. Propositions are already in

lor

•MI to announce t&e leuing of th* WF rk. With cheap coal, good markets, and activ* railroad competition, our qity will soon doublt in population. A bright future is •on. j,

Worthy of Attention.

T« Dr. Tkcnai A. Uarleyt I hereby certify that during the last year I was attacked with tho Ague while in Yicksburg. Miss., and nsed several popular potent medicines with but temporary relief. On reaching home the disease returned in a worse type, if possible, when my medical attendant ordered Quinine, in large doses, frequently as high as 60 grains per day, and which must have cost me nearly $100. 1 consulted Dr. Smith, of Louisville, and found he prescribed Quinine and Arsonie, combined, which I refused to take, preferring to let the disease take its course. I was almost bloodless, extremely exhausted, and pronounced with enlarged Liver and Spleen. At about this -time the advertisement of Hurley's Ague Tonic appeared in a city paper, and! determined to give it atrial. 1 did so and have no reason to regret it. One bottle restored me completely, and since that time I have seen nearly a hundred cases i& wUich iVo*lr« wrftr*^aall happy result, and would certainly recomnMipd it as preferable to any other Tonic before the public. justly claims for it, superiority over all remedies ever offered to the public for the. safe, certain speedy and permanent cure of Ague and FcI ver, or Chills ana Fever, whether of short or long standing. He refers to the entire West and

South, to bear him testimony to the truth of the assertion, that in no case whatever will it fail to cure, if the directions are strictly followed and carried out. In a great many cases a single dose has been sufficient for a cure, and whole' families have been cured by a single bottle, with a perfect restoration of general health. It is. however, prudent, and in every case more certain to cure, if its us is continued in smaller doses for a week or two after the disease has been checked, more especially in difficult and long standing cases. Usually, this medicine will not require any aid to keep the bowels in good order, should the paiient, however, require cathartic medicine after having taken three or four doses of the Tonic, a single dose of Hull's Vegetable Family PilU will be sufficient.

Tho foil owing from a highly educated popular physician in Georgia, is certainly one of the most sensible communications I have ever received. Vn.I.ANOW, W.lLKEItCorNTV. GA., .rune 29. IStiii. DR. JOHN BUM.—Dear Sir: I have recently given your worm destroyer several trials and find it wonderfully efficacious. It has not failed in a single instance to have tho wished for elFcct. I am doing a pretty large country practice, and have daily use for some article of that kind. I am free to confess that I know of no remedy recommended by the ablest authors that is so certain and speedy in its effects. On tho contrary they nre uncertain in tho extreme. My object in writing you this is to find out upon what term? I can get tho medicine directly from you. If I can

on easy terms, I shall use a great dcnl of it. am that the use of such articles is contrary to the teachings and practice of a great majority of tho regular line of M. D.'s. but I can seo no just causo or good sense in discarding remedy which wo know to bo efficient, simply because we may be ignorant of its combination, For ray part, I shall m.ike it a rule to us call nnd any means to alleviate suffering humanity which Imay bo able to command—not hesitating because some one more ingenious than myself may havo learned its effects first and securred the sole rignt to secure that knowledge. However, I am by no means an advocate or supporter of the thousands of worthless nostrums that flood tho country, that purport to cure all manner of disease to which human flesh is heir. Please reply soon and inform me of your best terms.
