On the first appearance of fever or irritation ushering in attacks, whether occurring in families or large communities, the subjoined mode of treatment should nt once be entered on "Take one grain each of powdered fox-glove or "digitalis" (valuable in the ratio of its greeuess—the dark fhould be rejected) and one of sulphate. of zinc. (This article is commonly known as white vitrol.) These should bo rubbed thoroughly in a mortar or other convenient vessel, with four or five drops of water this done, a noggin (or about four ounces) more with a little syrup or sugar should be added. Of this mixture a tahlespoonful should be givon to an adult, or two spoonfuls to a child, every second hour* until all symptoms of disease vanish. Thus conducted, eonvelcsecnce as if by magic will result. The rapidity of an event so auspicious will equally delight and astonish. It may however, be neccssary to note, that should the bowels become obstructed in progress of the disease, an evil hy no means common, then a drachm of the compound powder of jalap, (formed of two parts creain of tarter and one of jalap) and one grain of the* herb, treated as above, formed into a pastil with sirup and sugar, should be given to an adult, and half the quantity to a child. The simple medicine shuts out every other form or article whatever, as totally unnecessary if not pernicious.
The inelhodus medendi of these medicines, capable of effecting results so gigantic remain now only to be given, and appear to be «9 follows

Care for Virulent Small-pox. ScarllUna and Measles. A merchant and ship owner of Uoston has had the following recipe sent to him from England, where it was furnished by Mr. L. Larkin, member of the Royal College of vSurgeons. who vouches for it as "a medicine" lh.it will effect a revolution in the healing art, nu regards the prevention and cure not only of small-pox, but algo of measles and scarlitina, however ma lignant the type, in a manner more efficient and extraordinary than could ever have been hitherto anticipated even by the moat ardent philanthropist.
5
It is interesting to learn that the great Rosse telescope, with its monster tube, down which a tall man can walk upright, and with a light-gathering power
enormous that even by day
the stars seen throngh it shine like miniature suns, ha« not. remained idle since the lamented death of the astronomer who constructed it. Not only has the work to which Earl Rosse devoted it—the delineation of those strange stellar cloudlets that fleck the sky—been continued, but its powers have been devoted to aid the progress of new and subtle modes of research. The task was no simple one. The gigantic tube, with its pondrous six-foot mirror, had been poised so skillfully that a child could guide its movements. But for the new work which it was to be called on to perform, much more was wanted. A new power had to be given to the telescope.— a power of self-motion, so exactly reglated that the gigantic eye of the te'escope might remain steadily fixed on any given star or planet, notwithstanding the swift rotation of tho earth, by which, in the ordinary coudition of the tube, the celestial objects were carried in a few moments across its field of view. This power has. now been given to the great reflector, and thereby the value of the instrument as an uid to the scientific research has undoubtedly I been more than doubled. Already it has solved a question which has been found to lie far beyond the powers of inferior instruments done is believed to be the merest foretaste of what it is likely to do in coming vears.— Boston Advertiser.

Hong's Vision.
I him been stated in the Crisis that Mr. Hoag, in his vision, saw or spoke of the Lord's coming but be was a Quaker, and as the Friends do not- believe in the coming of Christ, they left out out that part of the vision in has their report of it. Some one asked, through the Crisis, the evidence of the truth of this statement.
After this vision was published in the Crisis, Bro. Jesse Miller, of Sheldon vi'.le, Mass., saw a Mr. Shcrinau. of Foxboro, #ho belongs to the society of Frietids, and obtained from him the following
Mr. Sherman said that he was well acquainted with Mr. Iloag, and considered him a very devoted and pious man. He said that Mr. Hoag related his vision to him is 1S03, aud that he was the first to whom he told it, and he wrote it down at that time as related to him.
Bro. Miller thcu took a copy from Mr. Sherman's record. This copy I have seen. There is nothing in it about Christ's coming. After speakof the monarchical,

There may be no gates of pearl,— no streets of gold, all this may be figurative as regards that heaven most of us hope for but let us still believe that in heaven there will be an endless day. Ye image-breakers who would spoil our prettiest pictures of the beyond by declaring all revelation only figurative, spare us this as literal. Literal our inner natures declare it. All who sorrow and weep would go wild with despair in their sorrowing and weeping did they not have, faith in an actual freedom ir. grief and tears by-and by. And that which is so fully borne in upon our deeper natures is generally true. By some subtle prescience we see somewhat of the hidden in a manner we cannot explain. So let us comfort ourselves in the belief which is tender and comforting as words of peace can be,—"There shall be night there!"

patriotism is not. above
suspicion. The *on is not loyal—to New England. He says No man i3 permitted to occupy a place in Congress from New England who is not tied down and sworn into an entire devotion to her local moneyed interests. Platforms, sugar-coated with glittering generalities, are made up of this, and each and all constitu-
and what it has ents keep their eyes fixed on the result. With the war, Tomb3, Davis & Co. disappeared, leaving Fessenden and Sumner masters of the field, and we found to our cost that, in resisting the aggressions of the first, we had by no means secured statesmanship in the last. The Government swung around from the extreme South to the extreme East, with tho difference that while the South has been qualified and tempered by opposition, New England had all her own way.
The Don is right. The South rules by cleverness and New England rules by dyspeptic cunning, dodged persistence. impudent assertion, assurance, cheek. :Thc West has the power and braius, but still i# kicked and cuffed
