Godey for Jantx&ry.
Wt have been favored with an advanpe copy of this highly popular book, published by L. A: Godey, Philadelphia. Time and again have we bnd the pleasure of uniting our voice with the thousands of editors throughout the United States in praise of this valuable household guide. The present number is as perfect magazine as could be desired. Besides the usual attraciive features which commend this number, it contains a portrait of the publisher, who for the long period of forty years hos done so much to make his periodical the leading one of America. There not a deportment in which women of any class can possess an interest, be it useful or ornamental, thai he has not devoted his pages to. There is an originality and gracefulness in every issue thai goes far to place it above other publications of similar character. As to the engravings, we never saw finer ones in any magazine. In presenting his portrait to his patrons Mr. Godcy has but yielded to an oft-repeated request for it by hundreds of his old'subscribers. His late trip (o Europe has given him tho renewed vigor for the labor of his life, as well as enabling im to make such arrangement!1 with his fashion correspondents as will be of benefit to his boo*. )W &y
The Boat and Cheapest Organs. ?f An illustration of'the advantages of a large production of any article, enabling the manufacturer to avail himself of the aid of machinery and most complete division of labor, and so torproducc the best work at lowest cost, is afforded by what the MASON IIAMLIN ORGAN CO., arc now doin^. Ii is well known that the Cabinet Organs of their manufacture have for some time enjoyed the reputation of being the best in the world and the demand for them from all countries has so increased that'the Company have now occasion to produce one hundred and fifty organi per tr(tk.
This has enabled ihein to introduce variety of ingenious machinery for the production of tho various parts of the instruments. by which they get increased perfection in their work, and make a considerable saving in the cost. It is a part of their system to sell always at least remunerative profit. depending on increased (.mount of Inifiness for a satisfactory result to themselves. Accordingly, they have recently reduced prices, and it is said, are now soiling their famous organs nt even less than it costs a small maker to produce inferior instruments.
are thus the gainer articlc at less tages, they would have to paywork. This Company will not make the so-called '-cheap" organs at any prif». All th'Mi-'Work is of the very best.
