lev a Xcw*pa|*r Van was "Corralled" If a Landlord's Daughter. I haven't dated thio letter, beeau«? I don't know where I am. am about nine miles from Jnlesbur^. nt a little •eUlement on the South Platte River. At daylight to morrow. I an) to catch aoine of the finest salraou you ever saw. They will uot bite at any other time olf day. I suppose they learned this diaagreeablo habit of early br^.ik fasting from the '•Hull Whaekers who h:ire navigated these plains. I am stopping at a little hotel about thirty by ten feet. The scarcest tliinj in this country is lumber, settler- having to pay ever so many dollar? a foot for all they use, beside® what they brought in their valines. Th" landlord is from Pennsylvania, ami «"cmi to he doing a thriving business. By dint of hard talking aud liberal promises, I got a room to myself. It is just large enough for the lied and candle-box *et on a rhair upon which I am writing thi« letter. It is in one end of the building, ami separated from the next room by a bed quilt. which you must crawl und*r to come in or go out. But it is, my room, and after the jolting I have had upon the Indian pony. 1 expect to have good nights'

Was ever a poor pilgrim in Mich a fix? Just as I had written -'night s" above, and bad sleep on the point of my pen, I heard a knocking on tho outside the bed quilt. "Crawl under." said I.

Enter the landlord's daughter, a baxom yonng lady, about seventeen yeara of age, should judge. She opened her rosy lips and spake as follows "Mister, don't take oft' your cloths to-night, when you go to bed." "Why?" "Because I am going to sleep with you." "Well, if you have no better reason than that—" "Hush, Shet up! You told par that you would not sleep with a man." "I had rather sleep with a wet dog.'' "Well, I have given up my bed to a sick man. have been hard at work all day and have to work hard all day to-morrow, and can't afford to set up all night. That bed is wide enough for us both. bhall •tay on the back side, and if you don't you'd better, that's all.

As she said this she raised from her dress pocket an infernal jack-knife, such as farmers use in trimming fruit trees, and then let it fall back with a chug. I compreheuJed the situation in half a moment, and unto the maiden I quoth as follows "Miss young lady, your intentions may or may not, be honorable. I'm traveling entirely by myself. My natural protectors are miles and miles away beyond the boundless prairie, ignorent of the perils which mRy beset their idol. Thus far 1 have not been insulted by your sex. am a man of a few words, but they are always emphatic. I will give up a part of that bed, and that's all I will do. If you attempt, during the silent watches of the night, anything contrary to this firm determination, by St. Joseph, my patron saiut, will shoot you right through the midriflV'

As I concludcd, I laid a Slocum pistol upon the candlcbox. A low chuckle outside the bedquilt gave evidince that paterfamilias had heard and approved the arrangement.

My antagonist laughed, and saying •'Mister, I reckon we understand each other," bounced over to the backside of the bed. There she is now, prctonding to bo asleep. 1 can't finish this letter. I can't do anything. Talk about the trials of the earlier saints— about being broiled over live coals— about being flayed alive—about, being boiled in oil. What was all thiit to nil this.

IT was proposed in Paris immediately after the death of Lucas, the lion-tamer, to prohibit all amusements. the excitement of which consisted in the possibility that a man might he killed in sight of the audienr*. Since then there has beeu a horrible occurrence at a Spanish bull-fight at Juras, in the Cirad. One of the bulls tossed man, killed him in an instant, aud ran about the circus with his entrails twisted about his horns. Nobody thought of stopping the perfor innnee, which went on for tluvi' hours'. afterward.

WORTHY OF ATTENTION. To Pr. Thomas A. Hurley I hereby certify thnt dnring lu'l year 1 *».' attacked with the ague whilst in Vickisbure, Mi"., and used several popular medicines with but temporary relief. On reaching^ home_ the diseased returned in a worse type, if possible, when my medical attendant ordered Quinine in large doses—frequently as high as 60 grains per I day. and which must, have cost me nearly 8100.

I consulted Dr. Smith, of Louisville, and found I he prescribed iuinine and arsenic combined. I which I refused to take, preferring to let the disease take its coarse. I was almost bloodless, extremely exhausted, and pronounced with enlarged Liver and Spleen. About this time, the advertisement of Hurley's Ague Tonic, appeared in a city paper, and determined to give it atrial. I did so. and have no reason to regret it. One bottle restored me completely, and since that time seen neariy a hundred cases in which it acted with equally happy results, and I would certainly recommend it_ as preferable to any other tonic before the public.

Hurley's Saraspurilla is what it is represented, and I believe it the most, wonderful medicine before tho public. Nothing under the heavens could induce me to say so without proof of the strongest and surest kind therefore, I speak willingly and positively on tho Pi'bjpot.

My daughter has been ntflicted with skin dissease and stiffness of the joints for several years, (employed the principal physicians of tho city and they could not cure her. I gave-her your Sarsaparilla not expocting it would do her much good, fcnt to my groat astonishment she rapidly got well, and thank God continues so. Had she been taking any medicine I would not give this certificate but your Sarasparilla. the only remedy employed, leaves no doubt of its medical dualities, and that it alone cured her. (Signed.)
