Time, Place, and Occasion:
The .«had«s of ni^ht were falling fast, As through a Western City passed A youth, who bore, 'mid snow and ice. A banner with this strange device "GOOD XEWSr
The news was that L. A. FOOTE A Cl). had just received alargc lot of New Goods, making theirstock fuller and more complete than it had ever been, and the beststock in their line ever in the city of Crawfordsville.
lie passed where hangs the sign o'er head "Nofarthergo," a young man said. "You'll find no better far or wide"—
Aud loud thatsaxe-horn voice replied: '•GOOD NEWS!"
For the information of the public, wc would say that the sign referred to is that of the' okkkh ook Stoke,"(you can see itfrom either Green or Vornon streets,) and the young man who stopped the traveler was John R. Robinson, Jr.. who has been in the establishment a year, and being well posted in the business, know what he was talking about when he told the gentleman with the banner to stop. If you doubt, call and ask him.
And now he stands within the dour, Where goods are found from wall to floor And with a smile and wink of eye. lie says in accents clear and high. •1 SKK NKW GOODS!"
Ho saw Bibles. Testaments, Pra.rer Books and Hymn Books for all denominations. Albums, Histories, Novels, Music Books, a great stock of miscellaneous Books, all the school Books in use in common Schools, College Text Books. Blank and Memorandum Books, Pictures. all sorts, kinds and sizes. Picture Frames, Moldings, Paper of evory sixe and kind. Wall and Window Paper, Window Shades, Cords, Tassels Envelopes, Slates. Pencils. Ink. Pens, Toys iu great variety, and Notions of all kinds. In fact, if yon were to ask him ho would not be able toenumorale tho half that he did seo. Nor did he forget to inquire tho prices, which, being lower than bo i»nt'oinoiod. .and finding 'ju^nled he bought quite a large quuntity, which led to the following results:
At broak of day, towards the brook, His way a thirsty farmor took ^5^' lie hoard a voice of wild despair -z Ringclearly through the morning air— "GOOD NKWS!"
The farmer was astonished for he could see no one, and so lie brought out his dugs for a hunt, and had the mystery explained as follows:-i
The fact is that ho had got too many articles for his money and was not able to "tote" them home, and so got into the above unfortunate predicament.
I fear the youth who bravely bore The Excelsior flag in days of yoro, The "Corner Book Store" had not'found Or ho might now be singing round— "GOOD NEWS!"
The rensou we have for this belief is. that if he had found the 'Corner" he would have bought so many entertaining Books that ho would never have undertaken that journey, hut have stayed at home and made a quiet citizen.
n..,J.. „t|
re
,, „,] llrt.a thin d»y,
If you'd like to know TM1 tell you the way His mind wns full and his heart was warm. And lie was ouly singing auiid the storm,
And now with goods in his arms and hands. Goods on his back, in goods he stands— And costing but a very few ftps— 'Ihe well known sound comes ftoui his hps," "GOOD NEWS!" -if* tbi. It may be said that the vouth above mentioned was employed to blow for FOOTE A CO., but you can be convinced of your mistako if you will call and see the best assorted and roost complete stock of goods in our line ever brought to the city, and at prices to suit the times.
5
Tho youth forgot to say that we keep a General .News Depot, where you can find a full supply of MAGAZINES and Literary Papers,
Also havo for sale the "Wllcoiifc filbbs Sewing Machine," which we invito you to call and soc. Any goods not on hands promptly ordered.
