Our citizens were addressed, ou Tuesevcuing lust, by this gentleman. A large

attendance of Indies and gentlemen greet­

ed liim. But a few hours notice was given of bin arrival, but the Radicals so

cfloctually and maliciously advertised him

that the curiosity of all parties was arous­

ed. A circular was issued and distribut­

ed, fully purporting to contain extracts from his paper. This circular and its effect was destroyed by Mr. POMKROY himself, who deposited in Major EI.STON'S

Bank a check for one thousand dollars, to

be given to any one who would prove that these extracts were taken from his paper. The cheek will remain there two weeks. Mr. O.MEKNY during his short stay was

the recipient of many attentions, and ex­

pressed himself much pleased with our

educational facilities. lie visited the

College and was shown through the buildings by Professor IIOVEY. IIis speech in the evening was a sore disappointment

to the Radicals. It was eminently con­

servative. No Republican present could

possibly take offense at his humorous illustrations. It was just the speech to

draw the working men. and those 011 whom

the burdeus of taxation rests, to the Na­

tional iiion Democracy. We don't believe that there is one Republican who heard Mr. I'OMKHOY will join in the fierce

declamatory mouthing against him that

many of our Radicals indulge in.

A Dancing Club.

A number of our young men have as­

sociated themselves in a Dancing Club.

They have elected their officers, and propose to be gay and festive cusses for the

next six months. They will give two

grand balls each month during the fall

and winter. No one will be admitted

without a ticket.

MORTALITY.

There seems to be a great deal of llysentery and Cholcra-inorbus about just now. and our list of deaths is much larger than we are usually called upon to record. Rating unripe or decayed fruit seems to be the principal cause.

I was favor of putting down the rebellion by force of arms—that being accomplished, 1 am in favor of peace—long, lasting and permanent, by a full and complete restoration of the Union, and that without unnecessary delay. I endorse the nine Resolutions of the National Union Convention recently held at Philadelphia. I am in favor of an advalorum tax for revenue purposes, instead of the present unjust system of taxing the industrial pursuits of the country. 1 am opposed to manufacturing monopolies for the benefit of privileged classes. 1 think that while men are fully competent to carry on this Government for all time to come, without the aid of 8-uiibo or Cuffy, Fred. An Additional Bounty of $50 is now allowed to ., each soldier enliatodfor two yoars, whobaareceived, or is cntitlod to rooeivo, no more than $50 bounty umior previous taws.

A bounty of $50 is now allowed to each and every Foldier enlisted for any loss period than two years, who has beon honorably discharged on account of wounds received in tho line of duty.

To llw Heirs of Deceased Soldiers: If a soldier, enlisted for throe years, as above sta-' ted. has died of wounds received, or disease contracted in tho lino of duty, tho AdditionalBounty oi $100 is allowed to tbo widow,/minor children or parents of such diseased soldier in the order named.

If a soldier, enlisted for any less period than three years, has died of wounds received, or disease contracted in tho lino of duty, the Additional Bounty of $50 is allowed to tho widow, minor children or parents of Mich deceased soldier in the order nauied.

To Officers: All officers below tho rank of Brigadier General who wore in the servico as such on the 3d of March, 1605, and who wore honorably discharge, or who have resigned, since April 0,1K65. arc now ontitled to three months pay proper.

To Pensioners "Widows are now entitled by law to an increase of their pcusion $2 per month for each obild under 10 years of ago.

Invalid soldiers, for total disability, aro entitled to a pension of l'roui eight, to fifteen, twonty ond twen-ty-fivo dollars per month.

To obtain the benefits of those laws, persona in all cases to mako a now application. Applicants for the Additional Bounty must bring or send their Dischargo Papers and got a receipt for the same.
