A Saintlj Eepublicuii.

The New York Independent puts the name of General Scott in the same Bentcnce with that of John Brown, thus: "The military skill and prudence of ircneinl Scott were all powcrlul in Mexico, ra his gallantry had been on the Canadian frontier but the name that nerved our volunteers and gave us victory at last over rebellion was the saintly one of old John Brown."

John Brown was notorious horse-thief, robber and murderer. Of course, he makes a capital saint fur the Radical Republicans, the party of great moral ideas.

General Wade Hampton.

A correspondent of the Memphis Argus, writing irom Kirg's Point. Mississippi, says:

"Ten or twelve miles below hero, at Lake "Washington, lives, in quiet retirement, Lieutenant General Wade Hampton, the second greatest cavalry chieftain ol the late confederacy, lie owns two or three extensive plantations, upon which be divides his time, devoting himself chiefly to the congenial pursuits of a representative Southern gentleman—books, planting, and the chase. 11 is former slaves, of whom he owned several hundred, true to their ancient allegiance and their own interests, remain with the General, and are represented asconteuted and iudustrious."

THE MOST "LOYAL."—Iu reply to the question: "What class of people in the •South are the most loyal to the Union General Steadman, instead of praising the negro as his questioner expected, answered very laconically, "the returned rebel scJ-lifrs."

KVKRYUODY should go to the auction.
