slightly modified to suit tho \$

Tini(\ Placc and Occasion:

The shades of nighl wore falling fast. As through a Western Cliy passed A youth, who bore, "mid snow and ice. A banner with this strange device "HOOD 'K\Y

The news was that L. A. FOOTK A CO. li:ul just received a large lot of New Goods, making their stuck fuller and inure complete than it had ever heen, and the best stock in their line ever ill the city of Crnivfordtvillo.

Sf»» He passed whero hang* lie sign o'er bend: "No farther go," a young man said.

mm

Vou'll find no better far or wide'-— nsfytt tH&bi And loud that saxe-horn voice replied: o»'"GOOD NEWS!"

For the information of tho public, wo would say that tho sign referred to is that of the COJINKK HOOK STOIII ," (you can see it

from either tjroen or Vernon

street ?,) and the young man who stopped the traveler was .John It. Kobinson. Jr.. who has been in the establishment a year, and hoing well posted in the business, knew what he was talking about, when he told the gentleman with the banner to stop. If you doubt, cull and a^k him. i',:

And now lie stands within the door, Where goods arc found from wall to floor And with a smile and wink of eye, Ho rays in aecents clear and high. 1 SEE XEW C.OODS!"

He saw lliblos. Testaments, Pra.tcr Hooks and Hymn Hooks for all denominations. Albums^ Histories, Novels, Music Hooks, a great stock of miscellaneous Hooks. all the School Hooks in use in common Schools, College Text Hooks, Hlank and Memorandum Hooks, Pictures, all sorts, kinds and sizes, Picture Frames, Moldings, Paper of every size and kind. Wall and Window Paper, Window Shades, Cords, Tassels Envelopes, Slates, Pencils, Ink, Pens, Toys in great variety, and Notions of all kinds. In fact, if you were to ask him he would not be ablo to enumerate the half that he did see. Nor did lie forgot to inquire the prices, which, being lower than ho anticipated, and finding many things he wanted he bought quito a large quantity, which ltd to the following results:

At break of day. towards the brook, His way a thirsty farmer look Ho heard a voice of wild despair King clenrly through the morning air— "GOOD NEWS!"

Tho fanner was asloni 'liid for he could see no one. and so ho brought out his dogs for a hunt, and had tho mystery explained as follows:

A traveler, by tho faithful hound, ••.•r.-'Vi: All buried in New Goods was found iriKt-i Still his hands, as in a vice. That banner with that strango device "GOOD NEWS!"

The fact is that lie had got, too many articles for his money and was not ablo to 'toto" them home, and so got into tho above unfortunato predicament

I fear the youth who bravely boro Tho Kxcelsior flag in days of yore, Tho "Corner Book Storo" had not found Or he might now bo singing round— "GOOD NEWS!"

The reason we have for this belief is, that if ho had found tbo "Corner" ho would have bought so many entortaining Hooks that he would never have undertaken that journey, but liavo stayed at homo and mado a quiet citizen.

Our hero livc«, and lives tlii« day. S If you'd like to know I'll toll you tbo way His mind was full and his heart was warm.

And ho was only singing amid tho storm, "GOOD NEWS'"

He rescucd from his pe.riloofl oondiUon* went on bin way rcjoicine and gladened his family and friends with a bountiful supply of Book*, Stationery. Toys, Notions, Ac., which ho had bought at, tho pi
