N O I E
Delinquent Tax Payers.
who know themselves delinquent on the Tax Duplicate of Montgomery connty for the year I860, ana previous to that time, arc requested to make payment of the same on or before the
First day of August, JYext,
as by so doing they will save cost. The law make? it the duty of tnc County Treasurer to collect all Taxes due, and my intention is to fill the law to the letter. hen a Treasurer fails to collect all Taxes, or collects from one portion of the people and not from the other, he fails to discharge his duty, for the law makes all men equally able to pay. The man that has only One Hundred Dollars' worth of property has but about one dollar of Taxes to pay. and the man with One Thousand Dollars' worth of property has about ten dollars to pay so you can see at once that all men are_equally able to pay, and all meu have the same privileges under the law alike, and should all pay their equal portion of Taxes and when the Treasurer fails to collect of one portion of the people and collects from the other, he suffers the paying portion to be imposed upon. From this fact, if. the amount of Taxes in this County is One Hundred Thousand Dollars, and Twent-five Thousand of that amount is delinquent, of course the taxes will still be higher on those that pay promptly for there has got to be so much mone.r raised, and those that pay up promptly have to/'foot the billl."
Now the law is as follows in regard to collcct inc Delinquent Taxe?: The Trcasurcrcan take any personal property and sell it at any time and there is no property exempt in any way whatever. There is 110 one I that would as much dislike to take and sell properly from any one as myself, but there is not nor cannot be, anything wrong in so doing. Those who have not paid, and fail to do so within the next three months, will find tho law carried out without respect to persons. So please call and settle on or before the time specified, and all will be right.
