WAR PLUNDER AT CAIRO.—Capt.
Scott,
of Company B, Chicago Zouaves, yester
day boarded a steamer eight miles above
Cairo, and ordered her to land at that place
to be searched. Before arriving there the
captain and crew deserted the boat, leav
ing Scott in command. He brought the
boat to Cairo, when it was found that she
was loaded with 1,000 kegs of powder,
and a large lot munitions of war, for the
rebels.
We also learn from a gentleman who
left Cairo last night that among the prizes
seized aboard of one of the enemy's
steamers, were about 500 Zouave caps,
which our boys appropriated to their own
individual use in double quick time, the
"seedy tiles" which previously constituted
the head-gear going into the river in a
jiffy-
