The Superintendent of the Honse of In

dustry mentions the following as one of

the cases coming nnder the consideration

of that institution. It was that of a widow

lrfly, the mother of two little girls, whom

she was striving to educate at the House

School. He says: Attention was paticularly called to their circumstances by the mother applying for •id to pay her rent. She had disposed of erery article of household furniture that could be pledged to eke out a miserable existence and keep her little family togethcr. "We found her," said the visitor, "hard at work, making boys' black cloth caps, trimmed with braid, and bow, and buttons, lined with black glazed muslin, and wash leather, andpattent leather front for the making and pressing of which she received

two shillings a dozen, or tico cents

I did not believe it, and asked to

se the pass book. It was true." "In good times," she said, "I used to get three and Bixpencc a dozen, but now the price is reduced."

Save U3 from such grasping traJesmen, and for the necessity that makes families dependent upon them! She had pledged the bed from under herself and children, the frock from off her back and by close application, working from early light till dark (she could not afford a candlc,) with such assistance as, we could give her, in the way of bread, she had laid away the money for her rent, just due. To add a little to her store, she had received another woman into her room as a lodger. After a week had passed, her lodger ran away, and carried with her all the poor widow's hard earned rent, and she could find no trace of the thief.

The agent was inexorable, and though a -Bobcr, honest woman, told her she must go out unless the rent was paid. What could she do? If turned out here she had no means to "advance" (as rent in advance is termed) in another house. To go into the street for the night was misery, and to sleep with her little girls in the Station House was almost certain death to them. In her extremity she applied to her friends at the House of Industry. "Please to lend me three dollars, and I will strive and repay it as fast as I can." How long would the mother strive to spare three dollars out of such wages?

Ague Gure FOB THE SFCEOT CCRC Or Intermittent Ferer, or Fever and Agnc,

Remittent Fever, Chill Fever, Dumb Ague, Periodical Hcadnclic, or Bilious Headache, and Bilious Fevers, indent for the whole class of diseases originating in biliary derangement, caused by the Malaria of miasmatic countries. No one remedy is louder called for by the necessities of the American people than a si viand safe cure for Fever and Ague. Such we are now enabled to oifcr. with a pcrfcct certainty that it will eradicate the disease, and with assurance, founded on proof, that no harm can arise fhm .its use in any quantity.

That which protects from or provent3 this disorder must be of immense service in the communities where it prevails. Prermfion is better than cure, for the patient escapes the risk which he must run in violent attacks of this baleful distemper. This

Cckf.

the miasmatic poison of Fr.vnn AND A

AGUE

le

from the system and prevents the development of the disease, if .taken on the first approach of its premonitory symptoms. It is not only the best remedy ever yet discovered for this class of complaints, "but also the cheapest. The largo quantity wc supply for a dollar brings it within the reach of every body and in bilious districts, where I'r.vcii AND

prevails, every body should have it

and use it freely both for cure and protection. It is hoped this price will place it within the reach of all—the poor as well as the rich. A great superiority of this remedy over any other ever discovered for the speedy and certain cure of Intcrmittcnts is, that it contains no Quinine or mineral, consequently it produces no quinism or other injurious cfi'ects whatever upon the constitution.- Those cured by it arc left as healthy as if they had never had the disease.

Fever and Ague is not alone the consequencc of the miasmatic poison. A great .rkty of disorders arise from its irritation, among which are Neuralgia, Rheumatism. Gout, lleadacho, Blindness, Toothache, Earache, Catarrh, Asthma, Palpitation, Painful Affection of tha Spleen, Hysterics, Pain in the Eowcls, Colic, Paralysis, and Derangement of the Stomach, all of which, when originating in this cause, put on the intermittent type, or become periodical. This Cunu" expels the poi.-ou from the blood, and consequently cures them nil alike. It is an invaluable protection to immigrants and persons travelling or temporarily residing in the malarious districts. If taken occasionally or daily while exposed to the infection, that will be excreted from tlie system, and cannot accumulate in sufficient quantity to ripen into d^easp. Hence it is even more valuable for protection than cure, and lew will ever suffer from Intcrmittcnts, if thev r.v.-ul themselves of the protection thio remedy affords.

When once tried, its superiority oxer every other medicine of its kind is too apparent to escapir observation, and where its virtues arc known, tiic public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ for the distressing and dangerous, affcctions of the pulmonary organs that are incident to our iunate.
