"THE SICKLBI TRACED*. Xijc leading papers of the Presbyterian and Congregational denomination of Christians present the following sentiments upon the recent tragedy in Washington City. The New York Independent, Congregational. one of whose editors is the celebrated. Rev. Henry Ward Beccher, thus comments Upon the affair:

We do not justify Mr. Sickles in his act. It was simply a summary, sanguinary, relentless street murder, committed of course trader greatest possible provocation. He has niaae himself obnoxious to the laws of the country, to the judgment of his countrymen, to the searching and terrific inquisition of his conscience, which can never 6hake off or really-wipe oufc'-thiss stajn of blood above all, to God, whose judgment draws nigher every hour.

Bat while we speak thus of him, the slayer,, we have only a lesson of admonition to draw, hardly one of-regret, from the death of the slain. If a man of the age and position of Mr. Key, with children around him and the memory of their deceased mother to doter him, certainly one would think from, such forms of sin—if

uses his powers, ami avails himself of the opportunities afforded by the unsuspicious friendship of another, to carry the blight

and contamination of lust into a household otherwise happy-rind then, as it is said,

even boasts of his success in the crimimd amour—he ought to expect to be shot like a dog whenecer he is discovered. It is

well for such polished scowidrels to understand thai a sudden bullet tJtrough their

brains may be the Ixirricr to a further pursuit of such genteel but damning crime.

The old fashion was for a man whoso family had been invaded in this way, to "call out" the traitorous dcbauchc who liacMnjurcd him, and expose himself to the other's bullet.

Wc have nothing to say in favor of the mode of summary assassination adopted by Mr. Sickles, cxcept that in the direction of abstract justice, it seems to us at least a large and useful advance on this former method. The Christian way of dealing with such offenses were, of course, different one from either. But one would almost as soon think of applying that rule to a menagerie of wild apes as to such a crowd of dainty, treacherous and profligate blackguards as gather naturally at Washington.

The New York

V'ntil society prescribes some penalty for .invading the sanctity of another's home, which shall be in proportion to the enormity of the guilt, and until its execution shall be more swift and certain, men will ••r.ke law into their own hands. Who can fxped a man, wlu.se blood is burning with

the conviction of household disgrace to wait the slow process of the law—to wait for months or years—all this time, perhaps, to have the finger of scorn pointed at him? and at last, perhaps, to have the destroyer of his peace punished by a paltry fine? No: until the seducer is not only punished, but punished in a way to inflict disgrace upon him—imprisoned: dressed as a felon, put in the pillory, or subjected to some ignominious punishment which will brand him as a dishonored man —such tragedies shall occur.

While they take from the act the cliaractcr of deliberate murder, by showing it to have been a terrible provocation, they only make us (urn away with loathing and disgust from the social corruption which they reveal. The offense which provoked this bloody revenge was a scandalous intrigue between Mr. Key and t!ie wife of Mr. Hieklcs—a guilt which was not the Kiibjcct of mere suspicion, but which was fully proved, and finally confessed.— Stung by this sudden revelation, it may well lie imagined that a man of high spirit should be driven to the verge of madness, and'when, sifter this disclosure, he saw the seducer pass before his door, and wave his handkerchief as a signal for another meeting, it is not surprising that his impatience for revenge should hurry him beyond cont.rol.

Ayer's Ague Onre,! which .neutralizes jtlii3, malarious, poison in the blood/ and stimubitcs tile liver fo crpd it frtT'ii the body. As it should, so it does curc this afflicting disorder with pcrfcct certainty.. And it docs more, or rather does what is of more tcrvice to those subject "to this infection. If taken in sca'son it expels it from the system as it is absorbed, and thus keeps those who use it free/rom its* attacks keeps the system in health although exposed til the disease. Consequently it not only cures, but protects from, the great variety of tilESciions which are induced bv this malignant influence, such as Remittent Fever,. Chill Fever, Dumb, or Masked Ague, Periodical Headache, or .Bilious Headache. Bilious i'dvers, Neuralgia, lt!irmiatism, Gout,- Blindness, Toothache, Earache, C'.tt.irrh, Asthma, Palpitatio:i•=, Painful Aifeetioas of the Spleen, Hysterics, Colic, Paralysis, an I Painful. removes the cause of these derangements, and cures the disease. This-it accomplishes by stimulating Ihe cxcrctorics to expel the virus from the system and these organs by degrees become habited to do this their office of their own accord, llencc arises what we term acelimatnlion. Time may accomplish the same end, but often life is not long enough, or is .--sacrificed in the attempt, while this Aoui: C'm.E 'doosjt'at once, pud with safety. We liavo great reason to believe this is a surer as well as safer remedy for the whole class of diseases which are caused by the miasmatic infcctiou, than any oilier which has bcen-discovcred and it has still another important advantage lo the public, which is, that it is cheap us well as good.
